How Western civilisation could collapse:

How Western civilisation could collapse:

Some possible precipitating factors are already in place. How the West reacts to them will determine the world’s future.

[I have to say I have never given this any thought. Nations collapse or lose their power or empires as we all know but a whole multi-nation collapse of civilisation? Not since the dark ages I would think. Its an interesting read and a warning as well. What do you think of it?]

The most interesting thing about this thread is that there have been no replies.

Actually this is a very important topic, and anyone with any understanding of history should find fascinating.

It is not just that any society CAN collapse, but without a doubt all societies WILL definitely collapse. It has always happened and always will. And the larger the society, like the US being a global superpower, the larger the totality of the collapse. Just like with the Roman Empire.

Being egocentric, I can't help wondering if this was an attempt to finally acknowledge the fact I constantly keep bringing up this as one of the main reasons against gun control?

But it does not really matter and is too late, because not only have all civilizations always failed, the people in the civilizations have always refused to consider that their civilization even could fail.
And that apparently inherent blindness is not only what causes the failure, but the lack of responses on this thread. People refuse to think about the reality.

So there seems to be no point in discussing it. It will just happen at its own time and place. And with Trump as president, it could be soon.
And if you think that is an anti-Trump remark, it actually isn't really.
In many ways Hillary would have been far worse, and it is the way people are treating the office of presidency that is causing current collapse, not necessarily Trump himself. Although he is not helping much.

I can't use or compare the fall of the Roman Empire to now. I can't use Nazi's, fascists or communism either. I think the reasons should be apparent.

"Disaster comes when elites push society toward instability and eventual collapse by hoarding huge quantities of wealth and resources"

When the wealthy run the country and the citizens do not hold them accountable, they drain the wealth out of the economic system. And that's exactly what has been happening and may continue to happen.

We elected Trump and he seems determined to make things worse than any president - Democrat or Republican - ever did.

And too many people still cannot see it. It doesn't have to be this way.

Not apparent to me.
To me, the US is almost identical to ancient Rome. Both are dependent upon colonialism, imperialism, and military domination of the world economy.

BRICS has more people, but currently the US dollar is the most important world currency, being used for oil sales for example. When the US defaults, it will cause huge, global, economic repercussions.

We probably will be at some point taken down a peg or two but a complete fall of western civilization, don't think so.

The various BRICS currencies are based on more than threats of doing violence to nations who don't accept it the way the US does.

You might be astounded how many countries are brassed off with American capricious bossiness.

Seems inevitable to me.

First of all, the US is unstable internally, as the poor do all the work but wealthy no longer share. It is getting worse. I remember good public health care in the 50s.

Second is the US is unstable externally because all of the world is tired of the US illegally invading innocent countries.

Third is that the US is living way beyond its means, no longer producing that much, going deeply into debt, and toppling governments in order to steal from other countries.

When there is an economic crisis, currency often is no longer of value. People who grow food will keep it, and cities and countries that rely on imports will no longer be able to survive.

This happens over and over in history.
Only by delaying it, we have made it much bigger when it finally happens.
