Because I work in IT and manage a division that use establishes analytics tool including Watson and others to analyze and use repositories of data. I'm talking from experience, not speculation and fear.

Re: ibm watson
But I looked at the stats and Canada has only 15.5 million people employed as of last month. Losing 13 million jobs to AI means you'll lose almost 90% of your jobs.

Then you're very technical/computer savvy.
Not trying to be smart aleck...but have you ever thought big businesses like this only let their employees know what they want them to know?

I agree...everyone i've conversed with from Canada is very educated. It's a shame some of it doesn't rub off on Americans.

Watson is really just IBM's data analytics engine, and is used to distill large amounts of data into information that can be used to understand conditions or make decisions based on that data. It's hardly ominous.
It only becomes ominous when people start to believe the false hype about things computers can not do and we should not let them do, such as self driving cars.

One of the reasons that Canada is experimenting with an annual guaranteed income is scientists claim Canada will lose 13 million jobs because of AI. Its wise to be ahead of the curve.
Not AI.
But automation.
Big difference.
AI is doing hard things that only skilled humans are able to do now, while automation is doing simple repetitive things that humans don't want to do and they should be doing something else more productive.
Automation is a good thing, AI is just fake fluff in order to make marketing claims.
What Watson is good at and should be used for is to comb massive amounts of data in order to distill it into something easier for humans to make decisions with.
Any attempt to make computers do the deciding would be a total and complete failure.
