Another wrinkle

School is about to align for fall start and yet the Hazelwood and Rockwoods districts in the St. Louis region may be at odds. Lack of instructors, few to no applicants while jobs fairs have resulted in minimal few applicants.

Along with the school bus issues with few to not near enough drivers/mechanics/general labor for cleaning the districts across MO are in a bind. Supposedly by our local news services this is not limited to MO but also IL and KS as to seeing issues in both lines of work.

Contacted my nephew with the masters degree, said he did apply at Rockwoods where they did call him for interview. They offered NO benefits for first two years, no tenure until ten years until employed three years no retirement accounts(401K) no overtime pay for first two years and no accrued vacation for the first two years.

Pay was moderate but with all the rest going on he said NO as would lose money and have to purchase benefits in the mean time.

Do these people have any sense of reality, they will get only the "Best" at this rate while their regular staffs are retiring in droves.

So do you support a working wage ?
Why not ?

Is it .... er sorry,
... what is it that makes your views so very different than the conservative policies that you generally support, suddenly, when one of your own family is effected by the obvious results of the tax cuts for wealthy that we liberals warned would be the end results ?

I would say there must have been huge funding cut in that county in the budget, in Portland we have all of those benefits but then look at the accusations when you mention liberal OR. to conservatives. Reap what you sow. Tenure, I believe has always been 10 yrs.

First off, has been NO tax cuts in MO for the school funding against the "Rich", all schools funds come from the property tax revenues NOT INCOME in MO so if you own a or more two million dollar property(s) you pay more to schools. Rockwoods is or had been one of the more 'Wealthy' districts, Hazelwood lost Ford some years back and Boeing(previously McDonnell Douglas) has cut funding way back due to production cutbacks as to supporting tax base.

Some years back when the Democrats were pushing their Bullshit Ideals on the districts in imaginative retirement changes the teachers decided to live out retirement on the clock, staying until well into later life to draw the highest value for their efforts(or lack thereof). Newer teachers were first for layoff and they have since gotten general jobs with REAL benefits, many now raising families where they cannot take the PAYCUT to go back as a teacher.
