One killed in Charlottesville protests....

....all this in the shadows of Thomas Jafferspn's home, and his beloved University of Virginia That he founded. Old Tom simply has to be spinning in his grave.

David Duke stated this rally "fulfills the promises of Donald Trump"

So is this a RW racist terrorist attack, or not, my conservatives brethren ?

How just like radicalized ISIS recruits are the Sons of the Confederacy traitors who hate America and express it in this way ?

Might be better out in the open.
For obviously the US would never have invaded a Christian country with "Shock and Awe" as we did to Iraq, especially since they were totally innocent.
For Hillary to support that invasion, she had to be as racist as the rest of them, but she would never have admitted it.
I wish we could get ALL the racists exposed.
There are a lot more than most people imagine I think.

Katie, it is loser's sandbagging.
Nothing more, or less.

Why can't the silly authoritarian cons, or their quisling apologists, as the case may be, can't deal deal with the present situation here and now in America ?
If they choose not do so then ... quislings* covers it.

If driving a car into people is terrorism in France, how is it any different in Virginia ?

Who radicalized 20-year-old James Fields ?

“This represents a turning point for the people of this country,” said Duke in video uploaded to Twitter by Indianapolis Star photojournalist Mykal McEldowney. “We are determined to take our country back. We are going to fulfill the promises of Donald Trump. That’s what we believed in, that’s why we voted for Donald Trump. Because he said he’s going to take our country back. That’s what we gotta do.”

Who is guilty of radicalizing silly impressionable young American fools like 20-year-old James Fields, David Duke or our members ?

* quis·ling
ˈkwizliNG/noun
a traitor who collaborates with an enemy force occupying their country.
synonyms: collaborator, colluder, sympathizer.

It seems they've identified the driver.

Definitely qualifies as terrorism. But the mother of the driver made an "interesting" statement

"... she knew her son was attending a rally in Virginia but didn’t know it was a white supremacist rally.

“I thought it had something to do with Trump. Trump’s not a white supremacist,” Bloom said.

“He had an African-American friend so ...,” "

Sounds like she's never paid any attention to what Trump has been spewing since before he started campaigning.

This country is more divided than it has been since the Civil a War. Even more bitterly divided than we were during the civil rights era or the Vietnam War. We desperately need some one to unite this country. And unfortunately Donald Trunp ain't the guy. But then I never remotely thought he would be. I just regret that my health keeps me from leaving the country. But I am beginning to believe a few extra years of this insanity isn't really living. And I am about to say to hell with the Mayo Clinic's neurology group, and just pack up and go home to die. A couple of years fishing on the Adriatic is worth more to me than 5 to 10 years of this. Unfortunately the women in my life on both sides of the Atlantic won't stand for that. And so here I sit, relegated to watching a once great country literally tear itself apart.

Sorry, but it strikes me as insane to claim that Muslim terrorism exists at all.

We invade, subjugate, enslave, assassinate, etc., for centuries, and suddenly when they try to retaliate at all, it is supposed to be all their fault?

There were aggressive invaders hundreds of years ago who spread Islam, but they were actually Turks, Moors, Mamalukes, Moguls, Mongols, etc., who were not Arabs and not really Muslim.

The US is guilty of horrendous war crimes in the Mideast, and we are still even now murdering even more millions of innocent people.
The 9/11 attack was not only deserved, but a hundred times that would not even be close to making the score even.
You would have to kill about 10 million or so in the US to get close to that.

GoHawk,

I replied in that other thread before I read this post. But I still believe that this isn't anything dramatically different from what we've experienced in the past including the Vietnam War era which you mentioned. In fact there was probably more hatred and anger being shown by the alt-right during Obama's presidency. They really didn't like him being president but we got through that period.

This country is pretty resilient. It's been through a lot of ups and downs in its relatively short history and still managed to be a place worth living in. That's why people still want to come here despite all the violent crime and other problems.

Incidentally, I understand that the person who played an important part to identify the killer was a New Zealander.

I have to say about racism in the US that non-whites must not be seen to assume that they are as good as white people. Certainly not show exasperation with stupidity. Or be sarcastic about it.

According to my colleagues in NC I was too full on. If I had been white I'd have got away with stuff that I was forever being pulled up for doing.

Well, I'm of two minds on how bad it really is.

On one hand, who shows up to a political march armed to the teeth, like this ?

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

But on the other hand, what snowflakes and easily ridiculed are they for fearing them evil Jews, like Woody Allan, Seinfeld, Bette Midler and Barbara Streisand so much that they whine that all of America must be their "safe place" where they are no longer confronted with having to fear the evil Jewish Conspiracy that threatens their hertitage and way of life, so very much ?

I've always thought they hated and feared the Jewish more than any other group, from Freemasons to the Illuminati to Dickens Fagin, they are assumed to have more financial power, be criminals and cheaters more than any other group in the world they hate, other minorities are struggling for that money and power.

You are correct about real Jews, but Ashkenazi Zionists have no such moral direction.
They are greedy opportunists, as we can tell by the way Netanyahu has occupied almost all of Palestine, without granting Palestinians citizenship in their lands.
The obvious goal is one of the worst cases of deliberate genocide we have ever seen.

Hawk, nobody dies from MS it just takes a couple of years off your life.

granted it's a serious illness, which feels like a curse. my sister had ms for 30 years and i was diagnosis with it less than 2 years ago, apparently i've also had it my whole life and kept ignoring the werid things happening to me, since i'm one of those people who just makes the best of things.

It took me waking up blind in one eye for me to finally get diagnosis and on medication.

so, i get why you want to be in the U.S for the best care, but after a couple of years of being on your meds you should be able to live where ever you want.

No two people have the same effects in MS, it is an extremely unique disease where one patient can be the pat description while the next is not and although the disease does not kill you, it's side effects of what it attacks can lead you to an earlier death. There are also two different types of MS, primary progressive which only 10% of patients have and secondary progressive MS which 90% of patients have. MS is said to take around 8 years off your life but living with MS I'm not sure how many want that last 8 yrs.

A few observations about MS, about the topic of the thread, and finally about Europe vs. the U.S.

First concerning Hawk and MS. Like Snowpixie, I chose to ignore somewhat obvious symptoms for years - at least 20 to 25 years. However those symptoms were relatively mild - mostly mild loss of balance and weakness in my arms and legs - and occurred on an intermittent basis. However over the years the symptoms grew in intensity and frequency And rhis last episode brought on the most severe loss of balance and strength, along with new and troubling symptoms, including double vision in my one good eye. That alone was the straw that broke the camel's back. And I immediately made it into my primary care Physician who is a member of the Mayo Health Network. And he immediately got me a referral to the Neurology group at the Mayo Clinic up the road in Rochester. Well this time it has been a struggle -- the Meds and fairly intensive physical and occupational therapy have helped me make significant progress. The double vision has cleared up. I have graduated from the walker to a cane, that I only use outside the house. And don't tell Becky, but I went to town on Friday to run some errands and meet George for lunch at the Senior center. And I purposely left my cane at home. Although my steps were slow and halting. I did impress the gangs at the bank, the Co-Op, and the Senior Center. Unfortunately the progress on my fine motor skills has been slower and more tedious. And typing continues to be a real adventure. (Thank heaven for auto check). But it to is coming. And participating in this boards is actually actually encouraged by my occupational therapist. Right now I have set a series of short term and long term goals.
My most immediate goal is to be able to go home to Trieste later this autumn before the Boras set in, so that I can go fishing on the Adriatic with my brother, and my brother-in-law. Something the three of us have done since we were in our 20's. Well enough of me. All of this typing, editing and re editing has the best of me. Therefore the other two topics will wait until another post.

And P.S. Katie is absolutely correct. In no way do I want an extra eight years of this. In a heart beat I stand by my original statement I would trade ten years of this crap for two years of fishing on the Adriatic or fly fishing for brow trout in the Julian Alps.

Hawk, i am sure you will reach your goal.
just listen to your body, it's talking to you. my sister used to tell me she could tell when a attack was coming on and would immediately lay down and sleep.

Heat and stress seemed to bring on her attacks. I'm still not sure what brings on mine, but it's not heat and it's not stress.

my balance and eyesight did get better the longer i was on medicine. i was told it takes a year for your eyes to recover from a attack. steroid drip treatments lasting about four days, really helped me.

i used google narrative, which will read to you when you are on the internet so that you don't strain your eyes. i take ocuvite. can't hurt. I also use google magnifier setting and subscribe to neurology today to keep up with what's new in the MS industry.

i realize it's hard not to freak out when it comes to your eyes.

like Katie said each person different. my sister body tingles, my body does not tingle.

I slowly learned to tell when my body was running hot which is hard to do when you live in desert environment. i also lay down, sometimes i sleep for long periods of time.
but, my body really needed the rest. I feel so much better when i take these naps and sadly they can take 8 hours, after you already had 8 hours of sleep the night before, but that only happens about once a week, and not every day. i feel so much better when i listen to my body. I also was very depressed when i was first diagnosis, cause i lost my job and identity, but i decided to fight, and find a career that i didn't need to see really well for. I will not let MS define me. not sure if that makes sense to anybody but myself.

anyway, i wish you the best.

Back to the topic of the thread -- the rece disturbing events in Charlottesville. Without any doubt, these neo-Nazis, KKK, and other white "nationalists" - i.e. racists are the most disgusting and disturbing groups you will ever encounter. And they actually thrive on the negative attention they receive.

Therefore, even though it is counter-intuative the most effective course of action at Charlottesville would have been to have totally ignored their very presence. Let them come to Virginia and genuflect at the base of Robert E. Lee's statue. But di it alone with no one else, including the media in attendance. Thus depriving them of the one thing they covet most - attention.

While ignoring this group of,cretins is viirtually impossible, and will never happen it would best to let them exercise their first amendment free speech rights in a vacuum. Thus depriving the opportunity of recruiting more Of their kind. Or heaven forbid, corrupting the mind of some vulnerable young person. The exposure, as negative as it is, is the one thing these despicable beings treasure above all else.
