Republicans push gun silencer bill; Democrats fire back:

Lawmakers on Tuesday debated the merits of a Republican-backed bill that would make it easier for individuals to buy gun silencers.

[“There’s no evidence of a public health issue associated with hearing loss from gunfire,” Kristin Brown, of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, told the Los Angeles Times earlier this year. “There is evidence of a public health crisis from gun violence, and we think that’s where legislative efforts should be directed.”

If noise suppression is really the issue why don't hunters and target shooters wear earphones? Construction workers do and they seem to work just fine. In fact many target shooters already wear them. In truth this is nothing more than an effort to get rid of all laws controlling anything to do with guns. What do you think?]

You all do understand the function of a silencer? You do realize the crap seen in the movies is in reality a lie? A true silencer does not remove all the noise of the firing, it 'muffles' much as a car muffler does by redirecting the noise thru a set of baffles it does not 'Silence'.

There is almost Negligible dampening of supersonic cartridge firings as the crack of the bullet flying at such supersonic speed is almost as loud as the explosive discharge of the firearms. Only low speed, subsonic as .22 rimfire, .38 special and a low power HANDLOADED 9mm or .45ACP round will dampen to the movie "Silenced" levels. Yet even on those you will get a report of some type from the firearm unlike the 'Movies'.

Hiram Maxim - the inventor - refered to his invention as "Maxim Silencers".

you are correct however that most of the noise from a gun comes from the supersonic round as the bullet breaks the sound barrier, outher sources of 'bang' are the chamber of a auto or semi auto ar the slide/ block slides back and the gap in a revolver between the barrel and the chamber. consequently to get the best result requires a bolt action and sub sonic ammo

a well designed silencer (or suppressor if you prefer) will reduce the sound by 30dB - which is a lot!

I dont see any point in banning them they are widely used here (legally)with no problems

Exactly, a 30-45db reduction is possible where the initial level is closer to 125-150db it just results in a less damaging level to the human ear.

The point isn't how silencers work or how well they work, the point is that we have tens of thousands of firearm deaths each year and they are concerned with hearing loss.

Actually all hunters and target shooters DO wear earphones, ear plugs, etc. In fact, at most gun shows there is a doctor who specialized in casting a perfect set of ear plug, while you wait. It looks awful because you have to lay on your side until the rubbery plastic dries, twice.

And the problem is that of course earphone hurt after while and the inability to have a conversations can lead to accidental dangerous situations.

Yes, there are tens of thousands of deliberate deaths that used a firearm but would have still happened if not a single firearm existed in the whole world, and there are over 150 million people at risk of severe hearing loss due to the unconstitutional restrictions on silences.
Silencers also used to be legal in the US, and they cause no problem.

once again you are simply plucking figures from your fundus.
What evidence have you that there are 150 million people who regularly fire guns?

where in the constitution is the right to silencers?
(the right to bear arms is there but NOT the right to bear quieter arms)

Lots of peopel working in industry wear ear protection and seem to manage even though they aften have the need to converse and recieve instruction rather than the desire to converse.

on the range ear protction should cause no problems, in the field there is no problem taking the ear protection off for a moment should you wish to talk.

My son spends much of his working day 100 feet up a tree using a chain saw whilst wearing ear protection and reports no difficulty in getting instructions whilst doing so.

I dont see a problem with quieter guns but lets not start inventing nonsense to justify them

I have already a 35+% hearing loss, partially due to industrial noise some due to home related work noise and do wear headphones at the range. Rather hard to wear headphones hunting and I don't care who you think does, when a turkey or deer is moving thru the wood the slightest noise can disturb them into a run, as far as the hunter being able to pick out the little noises of an animal moving nearly silently thru the brush is essential on getting a reliable shot so I would state 80-90% Do NOT wear ear muffs/plugs/noise protection during a hunt. Bird hunting even more so where calling birds listening for return call or listening for a bird moving thru dense brush just prior to flush is essential. There is not time to reinstall the devices prior to the jump.
