He also took advantage of this society's sexism and misogyny. Burlesque performers like Gypsy Rose Lee had been promoting a new take on sexual morality and entertainment for years before Playboy magazine appeared on the scene. But of course female performers like her didn't get any credit for changing or helping to change this society or its culture. That credit had to go only to some man or men.

Not only that but many of those female performers were arrested and harassed as would-be destroyers of American culture and morality while they were really changing it and moving it toward an expanding view of human sexuality as much as Playboy magazine ever did. They were just the wrong gender to be considered heroes of a cultural revolution.

Mais oui, that question is unanswerable in the same way that the question "How could a woman ask that question?" is unanswerable.

I think that its very answerable!

if some one would pay me $1000 a day I would laugh all the way to the bank!!!

All Hefner did was seize the day there were a lot of mens magazines around before Hefner stated Playboy (financed by his mother) they have been around since the start of the last century, Hefner saw his chance and took it - good luck to him and all the girls he employed

Can you imagine how this society would have reacted if a woman had carried on like him with a paid harem of male prostitutes while publishing a skin mag exploiting dumb naked men while putting men down in its editorial pages?

so far as I am aware - and please correct me if Im wrong - none of his models appeared in his magazine against their will, like wise all of his harem were willing participants.

These women were paid handsomely for their meagre talents - unlike the poor male suckers who actually had to hand over their hard earned cash in a stupid attempt to buy a dream.

I read once that the women who 'star' in porn films get paid several times the rate paid to their male 'co stars'.

if a man will pay a woman $1000 per day for showing her breasts just who is being exploited?

I never said that any of the Playboy models posed nude against their will. I believe they were conned with talk of it furthering their careers as well as a lot of hype about the magazine and the nudie photos being "classy" and "artistic" but they weren't forced into posing.

The problem is that they were being exploited and laughed at behind their backs. And their nudie photos wound up in the wrong hands, not only of children but also creeps and criminals in prisons all over the country. Those "girls next door" had their naked bodies being leered at by all sorts of creeps and criminals.

Some dumbass men didn't even mind their daughters posing nude for the "classy" Playboy magazine but what kind of a nut would want their daughter being exploited like that and nakedly exposed to creeps all over the country? Only someone who bought into the media hyped bullshit about Playboy magazine being classy. It reminds me of taking strip joints, dressing them up a bit and calling them "gentlemen's" clubs. What a load of rubbish.

like Lana Turner, Jayne Mansfield, Betty Grable, and Jane Russell, or is that totally different because they kept their clothes on?

I wonder if this model was 'conned into it'

That is probably true, and money was likely his objective.
But I still thing the world is a slightly better place because of him?

Assuming there is nothing wrong with hedonism there still might be something wrong with being a male slut and an inspiration to as well as a facilitator of creeps like Bill Cosby.

I am not seeing the harm.

You see no harm in convincing young women that they need to pose naked to further their careers and their naked photos winding up on prison walls all over the country, being the source of amusement and entertainment for rapists and other assorted creeps behind bars? That's not something anyone would wish for their daughter if they really cared about her. I didn't see Hef's daughter posing in the nude for some "artistic" photos in one of his magazines. Why not if it was all just good fun and "art."

I think people have a right to make money with their body any way they want to.

Hefner's daughter likely had enough money already.

Well, I believe many were famous before they posed in Playboy. Vanna White actually took her photos to Hefner. That big ole pile of cash probably had something to do with them getting published more than the promise of furthering their careers. Did you ever think that maybe some women are exhibitionists?
