I have a family that is half conservative, half liberal. We have always had debates on politics and some very loud but never crazy or nasty. The last few occasions one of my cousins is so right wing and gets so out of control that he has scared us, as a group when he is around we agreed, no more political discussions. I think this extreme behavior by so many started at the turn of the century and is getting increasingly worse and that certainly isn't just online nor is it just over politics.

When it comes to family members and politics, that's a tough one. Discussions can take a negative turn, especially if, for instance, brothers who used to agree on many things, find themselves at odds. Yet this is not simply a right/left scenario ... the left is now split and there's all kinds of confusion it seems. My husband and his brother can hardly talk politics now, both on the left: one a progressive, the other a centrist.

And one supported Clinton and the other Sanders? One daughter and I supported Sanders, all the rest Clinton and I did get some flak but nothing that caused a problem. My problem is I am somewhere between Bernie and Hillary. I have always wanted Biden as a first choice.

Thank you ... and I see so far I've only received one negative karma point ... I'll have to work on that, maybe I can gather up some more! emoticon

Yes, they each supported not only a different candidate, but a completely different set of values. Now they mostly only e-mail together; at least they've accepted that they're not going to see eye to eye, probably ever again!
