No it wasn't a rip off, I saw Tony Bennett in my 'home' sing, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," doesn't get any better. It was a club with a live band and you dressed up. I don't think anyone paid hundreds of dollars unless it was one of those private clubs, your'e talking as it was 48 years ago. By the way you find women in those "gentlemen's clubs" if you mean strip bars, more than you think, it's become quite popular, along with straights going into gay clubs especially when there is music/dancing, they do a huge after hour business in Portland. Things have changed.

Yes, things have changed but not always for the better. It's interesting to me that some people consent to being ripped off and treated to less of a real professional show than used to be common in nightclubs. I suppose part of it is simply the fact that they have little alternative.

It's kind of like television. If there is nothing on it but garbage people will still watch the garbage. At least some people.

The world of entertainment has experienced a cultural decline not just in nightclubs but also on TV and in films. Just because we have more alternatives than we used to have it doesn't follow that we have better ones.

I see the opposite, there are far more choices, the difference is not liking or agreeing with other peoples choices.

Can you go see a high class nightclub show like you saw in North Beach now? A show with everything included, comedians, dancers like Carol Doda, singers like Tony Bennet and a live band?

More choices should include being able to see professional quality shows like people were able to see in the past. If they don't those choices are highly limited.

I can cause I live in a city that enjoys good food and entertainment. I can go to the ballet, the symphony, the theater, a fine dining establishment with jazz, a singer, in the form of old nightclubs, where you still 'dress' a comedy club or I can go on the "down low." Portland has several little clubs that seat a couple hundred or so with some very famous entertainers, there are also a few venues that seat up to a couple thousand to the MODA center for the big time concerts. There are always places to go in Portland for whatever you enjoy.

She was a stripper at the Condor Club in North Beach SF, known as the Italian ethnic area, home of the beatniks, mixed with some nightclubs and great restaurants. She is dead now but was famous for her "44 D's" when I saw the show it was topless only but later she went bottomless, it was outlawed and when she still did it, got busted went to jail. If alive she would be 81.

Carol was a legendary stripper/topless dancer who performed in San Francisco's North Beach at a place called the Condor Club. She was supposedly the first stripper who performed topless without pasties but that may have been more publicity than truth. I suspect other strippers performed topless before her.

While everyone is focused on Jay-z's bar bill and tip how about this one

JLo leaves $5,500 tip for staff at twins' birthday bash

Jennifer Lopez gifted restaurant employees working her twins’ birthday party a $5,500 tip.

The singer and actress star threw her twins Max and Emme a 10th birthday bash at the Sugar Factory in Las Vegas on Thursday. The kids and over 30 guests gobbled up custom cakes at the celebration and mum was so pleased with the party she left a huge tip for staff.

According to TMZ, the bill came to $7,500 and Lopez left the crew a $5,500 tip.

etc ...

As one of the comments says - Jay-Z's tip was only the usual 15%
