Kamala Harris is a political opportunist who will be loved by Democrats and, like Elizabeth Warren, will go nowhere in national politics.

I love it when someone who is politically opposed identify's a person in politics as going "nowhere" that usuasally means they will go somewhere. To say Warren has gone "nowhere" well you know her name right?

Trying to enact gun control legislation at the federal level is not going to be productive. People who want to see gun control enacted should be working at their own state level where many legislatures will be more receptive and more ideologically inclined to support it. The state level is the appropriate level for this type of legislation.

While you have a point, here's the problem with that...

...evidence suggests a city or state’s gun laws may only be as effective as those of the state next door.

How many of the mass shootings we've seen involved guns that were brought across state lines?

I have no idea, but it isn't simply mass school shootings that are the problem.

But it's the mass shootings (both school and non-school) that have fueled the calls for more gun control laws. And I haven't been able to recall any of those events which were carried out with guns purchased in a state and then transported across state lines. So there's no reason to think that state gun control laws won't be effective in curbing gun violence, if gun control laws will curb gun violence. Add to that the fact that laws like this are much more easily passed at the state level, and the constitutional problems with federal gun control measures, and it's clear that gun control advocates would be far more effective focusing their efforts on state laws.

Texas Lt Governor Dan Patrick thinks everything except guns are to blame for school shootings. He blames abortion and video games.

Can this prick be seriously saying this?

I don't know. Post a link to what he said and then we can discuss it.

Re: 2018 has been deadlier for schoolchildren than service members

An impassioned Patrick told George Stephanopoulos that “we cannot sit back and say ‘it’s the gun,’” exhorting Americans to “look inward at yourself at a nation” as they pray on Sunday.

Stephanopoulos countered that looking inward would reveal the fact that “guns are more available here, in greater numbers, in greater lethality than any other developed country in the world.”

Patrick agreed, but said said that guns are just part of the American fabric. “They are a part of who we are as a nation,” he said. “It is our Second Amendment — you know, it talks about a well-run militia…our teachers are part of that well-run militia.”

The notion that teachers should double as snipers is popular on the right, as it the idea that it’s America’s moral benightednessess, not easy access to firearms, that explains the country’s unique problem with gun violence.
