Re: 2018 has been deadlier for schoolchildren than service members

since I can't do anything to help or stop these shootings.

I can't wait til school out for the summer. It's crazy to think that the majority of us want something done,
but nothing will be done.

Politicians will give disgusting excuses as to why nothing should be done.

FROM. MY. COLD. DEAD. HANDS.
Thoughts and prayers,
let's wait

we have a big problem on our hand when gun rights have more rights than life rights.

the second amendment can be restricted, as it has in the past and will be in the future. The line has been drawn before as to what is an acceptable weapon for the general population to own and what is not. The question now is, can we finally find the political will to move that line to keep up with the times.

All these school shootings are a symptom of something much worse going on. every-time a mass shooting happens people come out and say don't take my gun away from me. Like that's the only thing that should matter.

Expanding existing limitations on gun ownership = bad; subjecting our kids to a police state every day for school = good?

An impassioned Patrick told George Stephanopoulos that “we cannot sit back and say ‘it’s the gun,’” exhorting Americans to “look inward at yourself at a nation” as they pray on Sunday.

Stephanopoulos countered that looking inward would reveal the fact that “guns are more available here, in greater numbers, in greater lethality than any other developed country in the world.”

Patrick agreed, but said said that guns are just part of the American fabric. “They are a part of who we are as a nation,” he said. “It is our Second Amendment — you know, it talks about a well-run militia…our teachers are part of that well-run militia.”

The notion that teachers should double as snipers is popular on the right, as it the idea that it’s America’s moral benightednessess, not easy access to firearms, that explains the country’s unique problem with gun violence.

I didn't see anything there about abortion and video games, but maybe that's because you posted a snippet from an opinion piece rather than actually providing a link to what Patrick said.

Most of the discussion about gun control following these mass shootings has centered on bans of assault rifles. But this shooting wasn't done with that type of weapon - he used a shotgun and a handgun.

are you saying that we were lucky that the Texas shooter on Friday didn't have AR-15 with a highly accurate 30 round clip?

shotguns shoot sprays of bullets?

as i said earlier, this is a symptom of the time we live in.
The gun problem is a combination of ease of access to guns

And the mindset that guns are the easy way to solve problems. Just flash a gun and people are intimidated. Pull it and point it and people are more intimidated. The kid with the gun has power and That is a HUGE problem.

Educating people that guns are not the be all and end all to solving their problems would be a start in the right direction.

Clips aren't accurate or inaccurate.

I'm saying that this shooting doesn't provide any supporting evidence for gun control legislation generally being discussed.

yet, the title of this thread is 2018 has been deadlier from schoolchildren than service members, so you bringing up
the Texas shooting as a defense, to do nothing, is troubling.

You apparently haven't read my other comments in this thread.

My point to you, if you read my comment, was that the gun control legislation regarding semi-automatic assault weapons wouldn't have prevented this shooting, so the question is what, besides gun control, should be pursued to try to prevent these incidents?

What legislation is "generally being discussed"?

I hear a lot of things, but not much from Congress.

John, the type of gun control legislation discussed most often is a ban on assault weapons - semi-automatic weapons. Those weren't used in this shooting.

And your comment about Congress is just more support for my suggestion that gun control advocates should be focused on state legislatures.

I believe Florida passed some regulations and are being sued by the NRA.
