My theory is that women were looked at largely as being like children in the Victorian era. Not as mentally mature or as rational as adult men. That was part of the phony justification for not allowing them to vote or serve on juries.

Of course what that indicates is that men weren't nearly as rational as they thought they were. In fact they were quite stupid. Women should have been allowed to vote just as soon as men were.

Exactly! We are and should have been equal to men from the beginning.

If you read history alot of that has to do with religion and specifically in the western world, The Bible.The Vicorian age actually came before Queen Victoria watching the very public decadence of France and the falling of royality and aristocrats amd they didn't want to end up in the same boat and the strictest morals were used from The Bible.
