the problem with trains is that they travel from fixed point to fixed point - you still have to travel (usually by car) to and from those fixed points

Here the issue of truck drivers going beyong driving time has been largely solved - all trucks have a tachograph which records the speed of the truck, truckers that drive too fast get caught truckers whho dont take their compulsory breaks get caught

quote:

It is also largely unnecessary and a matter of recreation rather than need.

Why would anyone need a link to know that private planes are mostly unnecessary? How many places in the world are inaccessible except by private plane? And even in those places there is no requirement for people to live there.

Here's a short list of the main reasons for private plane use:
1. Recreation
2. To facilitate sky diving, a purely recreational activity
3. Business(which can be accomplished by other means)
4, Medical transport(which can be accomplished by other means)
5. Access to otherwise inaccessible places

Our neighbors to the north have flown from remote areas hundreds of miles to get to a hospital or a business meeting. Then there is Australia and so on, people on islands..........

People who actually needed to fly in a private aircraft could be issued a license to do so. That would still leave lots of people who don't really need to fly in them who endanger people on the ground.

They could simply be refused a license to fly one. That would cut down on air traffic and reduce the danger of these things crashing into peoples' homes. It would certainly make more sense than keeping heroin illegal.

I have a dream my friends a dream that one day Philer will take part in a thread, any thread, and not talk about heroin or make spurious and un substatiated claims about the corruption of the courts and juries.

my friends I HAVE A DREAM!

Mean while I took the grand children to the beach yesterday and saw people flying into a local hotel in their helicopter - no one was killed, no one was hurt, no property was damaged, and no one was alarmed (my grand daughter loved it!)

It landed hotel staff drove out in a golf buggy the couple got out of the helicopter and were driven into the hotel - presumably for afternoon tea as about 90 minutes later they flew off without incident

LOL Keep on dreaming, mais.

As you know I love talking about those subjects because I'm one of the few people or the only one who ever bring them up. If I don't talk about them nobody else will. Other people are too busy talking about how wonderful pot is or about racism in our court system. I like to point out that our courts also discriminate against women in our very sexist society.

No vehicles crash all the time. Even egg beaters with their poor safety record.

actually "egg beaters" as you perjoratively call them are far more inclined to crash than light aircraft

When my sister and I were in Vegas I tried to get her up in one to go over the Grand Canyon, she would not and now everytime a helicopter crashes, she lets me know and this was years ago!

I would say Philer, it is not "nobody" who will participate in drug conversations with you, I do and page after page. As my husband says, when I have the knowledge, the facts, the experience I get righteous and will not let the dog die. Your'e issue isn't about sexism, it's about men. Do I miss that prejudice against women happens, your'e kidding, women as we know did not get the vote till 1920, the 1st SC case was heard in 1965 and dozens since. Court cases as in domestic abuse, sex crimes are severely lacking as we witnessed in the recent hearings with Kavanaugh and claims of rage by far to many conservative women against the professor and other women who supported her, they call liars. Women who murder their husbands after years of abuse are still going to jail even though that abuse is acknowledged by the prosecution. I remember the stick Marcia Clark took, brilliant women made fun of to the point she was a lousy lawyer, then there is Nicole Simpson Brown. It isn't that I don't acknowledge the discrimination against women in the courtroom but you provide cases of women who actually got what they deserved. I would bet there are thousands of women across this country who should not be in jail due to some type of prejudice, pick them to defend! You do know there are evil women, right?

It's not really a pejorative term as much as a term of affection. I like helicopters. They are entertaining to watch fly. I'm just not particularly keen on flying in one.

Sounds like your sister is a very sensible person.

People discuss some drugs a lot but most people don't believe in legalizing heroin. Nor do they realize that heroin being legal would not be a problem for most people. Keeping it illegal just makes using it extremely dangerous.

Also, most people don't realize that people have a right to narcotics to fight their pain just like they have a right to drive a car to go to work or to have a gun to go hunting. The current mass media hysteria about the "opioid epidemic" has led to some people being denied narcotics that they need.

Of course. I've looked at lots of criminal cases. I know that women can be conditioned to become Prima Donnas who put themselves and what they want ahead of other people just like men can. Of course, it happens less often because women are more often raised to put others before themselves and not to be selfish. In the case of males teaching them not to focus on themselves and what they want doesn't happen as often.

As for the O. J. Simpson case that case all by itself illustrates the level of contempt that juries can have for women. Not only for the female murder victim, Nicole Brown but also for attorney Marcia Clark. Of course racism also played a role in that case.

A lot of people look at that case as an anomaly but it really wasn't. Lots of white juries have shown just as much contempt for white female murder victims as that one did.
