NFL referees remind me of jurors

At times they seem to be biased and to have favorite players and teams whom they help to win games. And unfortunately just like jurors they have a lot of power. Not as important a form of power since football games aren't as important as criminal trials but still a lot of power. They can easily cost teams a victory and give the game to the opposing teams.

Also, like jurors they often don't function based on evidence. Of course that isn't surprising since they are human beings who aren't inherently more competent than unqualified jurors.

It's a shame that an otherwise entertaining sport has to be tainted by incompetent and apparently biased referees. Part of the problem seems to be that no matter how poorly they do their job there are never any adverse consequences.

Incompetent that I can accept or wrong/mistakes, biased is hard to prove considering you are speaking of 32 teams and ref's shuffled around not knowing where they will end up.

It may be difficult to prove but it certainly appears to be a problem. Referees are like jurors in that they are almost bound to have favorites. If they are fans of the game that becomes even more likely and that seems likely since they are NFL referees.

Did you see either of the games on Sunday? There were questionable penalties against the Kansas City Chiefs. At least one of them could have easily cost the Chiefs the game. One fifteen yard penalty against them was because a defender had taken a swipe at Tom Brady. In a very similar incident involving Patrick Mahomes no flag was thrown.

In the Saints/Rams game one of the Rams was allowed to essentially tackle a receiver with no flag being thrown. That most likely cost the Saints the game. It even resulted in a call for the game to be replayed.

Yes I watched the games, I'm a big football fan and it isn't that I haven't come unglued about calls but you take it to another level considering refs do not get to choose the games they referee in and as long as I've been watching football since the 50's, they can make bad calls but it does not mean they are cheating cause they favor the team. Difficult to prove, most off the wall stuff is.
