How does this. "Reversing course, President Trump came to the defense of the Electoral College after recent comments made by Democratic 2020 contenders questioning the voting system." play ?

... like Trump is an idiot for not realizing that it the only reason that he is POTUS, from out of the gate.

The electoral college was outdated years ago and should have been abandoned years ago.

When you look at the young congesswoman AOC, you see that in her entire lifetime, Republicans have one the popular vote in only one election. The electoral college has greatly benefited the GOP, so it is no wonder they want to keep it. They end up winning with a minority of voters, such as 3 million less votes for Trump than there were for Hillary. Bush won with a minority vote as well.

We need to go to a popular vote like every other democracy does.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Why is it that not one of the Republican officeholders objecting to Biden's victory have objected to their own wins on the same day on the same ballots using the same election systems??!

Cannot simply "Abandon" the EC, is a BoR amendment(Twelfth) where would require Bill approved by House, accepted by Senate, passed to POTUS and then Ratified by a 3/4 majority of states. Good luck on the last signatures as most states appreciate they are not over ruled by LA NY Chicago and a few limited other Democrat Strongholds.

So instead it is OK for the majority to be overruled by a small minority in a few states? Hillary lost that election by about 70,000 votes in just three states. Imagine if a Republican candidate had lost the presidential election the same way.

Republicans would be calling the Electoral College system a flawed system that needs to go bye bye. Which is exactly what it is.

Being a "constitutional Republic" does not prevent America from being a democracy

France is a republic but has a democratic system
ditto
•Austria.
•Belgium.
•Bulgaria.
•Croatia.
•Cyprus (see also Northern Cyprus)
•Czech Republic.
•Denmark.
•Estonia.

If America is not a democracy why does its government spend so much time claiming it is and that it spends so much time trying to make other countries democratic?
