The old travel in pairs BS is brought up again

That's not going to be an effective solution to this problem of women being attacked and killed. Women have been killed when they were in groups. And a lot of times women need to be able to travel safely alone. They are not always going to have a friend to travel with them.

quote:

Seymour Josephson said he wants others to learn from what happened to his daughter and be more careful using ride-hailing services. He said he wants to see those services improve safety for clients.

"I don’t want anyone else to go through this again," he said. “What we learned is … you guys have to travel together. If there’s two of you, something is less likely to happen. Samantha was by herself – she had absolutely no chance. None.”

True, but she would have had a chance if she had simply carried a weapon. Think about what she could have done. She was in the back seat, locked in. He was in the driver's seat up front driving her out into the country to terrorize and kill her. With a weapon she could have done all sorts of things to him but mainly she could likely have persuaded him to stop the car and let her out if she had wanted to be kind to the cretin.

The mass media still ignores the big elephant in the room as do the police. My advice. Don't worry so much about checking the licenses and other data of Uber drivers to make sure they are the real McCoy. Uber drivers can commit murder too.

Carry a weapon!

It's not a matter of nuts as much as extremely stupid violent criminals who like to target women. There are far too many of them out there.

All she would have needed is a little gun of some kind and she'd still be alive. For that matter, a knife could have saved her life.

This society is so dangerous for women that it is almost like they are playing Russian Roulette by not carrying a weapon of some kind.

I've carried guns and used them a fair amount and I've never accidentally shot anyone. The last gun I carried had two safeties which made that particular weapon very safe to carry.

The lives of young women like the one lost in this tragedy are more than worth any risk in carrying a weapon. There is too much at stake for them to continue to go around without them.

Masquerading behind a smoke screen of concern for women's safety lies the real reason why liberals don't want women to carry guns. They still retain that old sexist belief that somehow women are lesser creatures than men when it comes to owning, carrying and using guns. That such things should be left up to the police who just happen to be mostly men. That's a big load of sexist bullshit.

It's very reminiscent of that old belief that women weren't qualified to drive cars and would cause more accidents if allowed to do so. Even after women started driving them and proved they could do so safely they were still being accused of being "women drivers" who couldn't be trusted behind the wheel.

I don't think it has anything to do with women and guns but guns. Men and women think the same when it comes if you are of the liberal persuation, to accuse them of any different would be a lie. Liberal men, not conservatives are the ones who have promoted women's rights.

Yes, some of them have more than conservatives but that doesn't mean that they aren't failing to see a need in this case due to sexism and a lack of concern about women's safety. They would not put their hatred of guns and anti-gun doctrine ahead of women's safety if women's safety was their priority. It's very similar to conservatives putting their love of guns ahead of the safety of children.

Between liberals hating guns, except for some strange reason when they are in the hands of the police, and conservatives loving guns and seeing to it that criminals have access to them unarmed women are left vulnerable. Liberals and conservatives have managed to create a society that maximizes the danger for women from violent criminals while minimizing their ability to protect themselves from that danger.

That tells me that there is plenty of sexism and lack of concern about women's safety coming from both sides of the political spectrum.

First I think the statement liberals hate guns is a fallacy. What is true that more conservatives own guns than liberals. As a liberal until I got back from the UK(at 50) there was always weapons in my home. I was also a decent shot enjoying target shooting and small bird hunting. I don't understand what you are saying, I have never read where conservatives or liberals have an issue with women owing guns. Conservatives on the gun issue are as pro for women as men and if you are anti gun for women as a liberal the same is held for a man. Which tells me there isn't any sexism in guns, just some people are sexist..............

I haven't been talking about women owning guns but rather women carrying them and other weapons for their own protection. It appears to be mostly liberals who don't like that idea because it is mostly liberals who argue against it whenever I talk about it. If liberals were consistent and said that they were opposed to anyone carrying guns including the police then I wouldn't be so quick to see any sexism in their response. Instead they want the police to carry guns and they are also quick to start talking about women having accidents with guns and occasionally shooting themselves or others with them. Women aren't the only ones who occasionally have accidents with guns! The police do also. They also have them taken away from them and used against them on occasion. So why do liberals trust the police with guns but not women? That seems very sexist to me.
