Blood Brothers features a concluding scene that borders on the ridiculous. A twin brother accidentally shoots his twin and then is shot and killed by a cop?

Mama Mia - Boring

Starlight Express - Boring

No Sex Please, We're British - for a farce not all that funny

Stomp - Annoying and boring

We Will Rock You

Most of the others with the exception of The Mousetrap, The Woman In Black and Buddy Holly border on being mediocre with the exception of some of the music which matches that of "Cats" in quality.

The secret to the success of many of these plays is their music and often it's only one or two songs that are truly good. That can be enough to keep audiences coming back to see what really is not all that much beyond the music. Beautiful music is real art and it can all by itself keep audiences returning to a theatre.

Who would want to see a bunch of people cavorting around on stage in cat suits without some good music to listen to? Take away the music and "Cats" wouldn't have had nine lives. It would have been a big flop. Music took what otherwise would have seemed ridiculous to people and turned it into a hit.

I had a videotape of an English production of "Les Miserables, The Musical That Swept The World(In Concert)." I quickly used the tape to record something entertaining, erasing that sweeping musical that was extremely boring. I'm not a fan of the dull and overhyped.

As for the others, I've seen enough excerpts to recognize crap or read enough about them in reviews to make a good guess about them.

On a positive note I will say this about the American film industry. It has turned out magnificent films in the past. I just got through watching a film called "Talk About A Stranger" from 1952 based on the story, "The Enemy" by Charlotte Armstrong. It's a short film by today's standards, just 65 minutes, but it blows most modern American films out of the water. A true work of film art.

I have seen all but 5. Phantom and Les Miz, Miss Saigon, Grease, Starlight Parade, Billy Elliot, Wicked the originals, Phantom with Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford and Les Miz, Patti Lupone as Fantine and Michael Ball in the West End an unforgettable experience. I have also seen both several times each in London and Portland and have the CD's, tears to my eyes. Whether drama or musical, there is nothing like the theatre in the west end. Besides it's an extremely fun area as well, lots of sites, bars, restaurants.

I liked the West End in 1982 when I lived there and again when I visited London in 1990 but I'm not much of a play buff. My favorite musical play of all time is Gypsy. Great music.

I used to do special effects for an English couple who staged plays but the plays themselves were less interesting to me than the work.

I've never seen "Gypsy" on stage. We are going to the UK at the end of May, I have looked what's on and I'm thinking about seeing "Tina."

"Gypsy" is a great musical to see live on stage. There have been a great number of revivals.
