Is it wrong to lighten your skin?

It's sort of the reverse of darkening your skin with tanning products which isn't considered to be as politically incorrect. Or potentially as racist.

My only problem with skin lighteners is their toxicity. Nothing which significantly damages a person's skin should be legal. That truism applies to both skin lighteners and skin darkeners.

That said, if people want to lighten their skin and can do so safely they have every right to do so. The exact same right that people have to darken their skin.

Darkening your skin is healthy, lightening is not.

I'm not sure I get either one. However, there have been white persons whose skin is so white, it looks like you are at deaths door.

The sun is dangerous nuclear radiation.
Darkened skin blocks more of the harmful rays.
Lighter skin is bound to lead to more dangerous melanoma.

Apparently neither is healthy.

quote:

There is no safe amount of tanning. Tanning isn't bad for you just because it comes with the risk of burning, which can cause skin cancer. Tanning is bad for you because your body doesn't even begin to tan until dangerous ultraviolet (UV) rays have pierced your skin and started to mess with your DNA.May 27, 2018-livescience.com

It appears people have essentially the same right to lighten their skin as they have to darken it.

Some people probably want to look that white. Regardless people have the right to have whatever shade of skin color they want. Other people deciding what skin color is right for them due to political correctness seems a bit pushy.

I was thinking of dyes, but you have a point that darkening could be dangerous as well. I now live at 7,000', so have to wear a hat all the time. The radiation is so intense, I get sunburn right through my hair. I even believe the thinner oxygen level makes a difference in cognitive abilities.
