Lucky you. Based on what you've mentioned about your experiences in North Beach and this revelation about Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young you've experienced a lot of very "happening" live entertainment. Were there any other famous groups you saw?

I wish I'd seen some of the more famous rock groups in concert but somehow missed them all.

So many, frequent, Janis, Grateful Dead, Santana, anyone with the last name King, Steve Miller, Leon Russell, Fleetwood Mac my all time favorite Boz Skaggs. There was the Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Led Zep. Also great Bay Area bands, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Tower of Power, Cold Blood and I loved the Pointer Sisters. Or Bob Dylan, James Brown, The Chamber Bros., The Four Tops to the Yardbirds,.....

Great bands all but there is one glaring omission which you might be able to guess. The Beatles!

Also, what about The Beach Boys? Ever see them in concert?

I missed out on two Beatle concerts, one at 15 my parents wouldn't let me go and the last in 1966 which I don't remember why but I was only 17. I did see Paul McCartney and his band in Portland several years ago, first time I ever had tears in my eyes from seeing a musician, it was awesome. I left out the Beach Boys, big in CA. life especially if you lived close or in Santa Cruz as I did, I've seen them several times.

Living in Santa Cruz had to be very different from living in East St. Louis, Illinois as I did. Not a lot of big names came around there except for candidate John Kennedy during his campaign for the presidency. I still vividly recall him cruising by in his convertible waving at all us little school kids who had been let of school for the occasion.

It was my luck where I lived, entertainers can come out of some town middle of nowhere but they will play where they can get the most $$$.
