Arizona Democratic congressman tests positive for Covid-19

I've met this guy several times over the years. He's from a neighboring district, covering the west side of town and beyond. He's always been a champion of people's rights. White, Brown, Indian, Mexican, in other words...People! Whoever people that the GOP holds currently in their crosshairs!

(CNN)Arizona Democrat Rep. Raúl Grijalva has tested positive for coronavirus, his office confirmed Saturday.

Grijalva "was notified by the (Capitol) attending physician yesterday evening that he has tested positive for Covid-19," his communications director, Geoff Nolan, told CNN on Saturday.

Because he had been at a hearing on Tuesday with Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert, who tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, "out of precaution, Grijalva went into self-isolation on Wednesday until he got a test," Nolan said.

In a statement Saturday, Grijalva slammed Republicans who don't wear masks in the building, citing the events of the week.

"While I cannot blame anyone directly for this, this week has shown that there are some Members of Congress who fail to take this crisis seriously," he said. "Numerous Republican members routinely strut around the Capitol without a mask to selfishly make a political statement at the expense of their colleagues, staff, and their families."

Nolan said that Grijalva is currently asymptomatic and that "he's feeling fine and is just getting some rest."

Grijalva will be quarantining in his home in the Washington area, and some of the staffers who had been with him during the week are going to be tested as well, Nolan added. He noted that Grijalva wears a mask every day at the Capitol.

Grijalva also praised House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's mandate requiring all House members and aides to wear masks on the floor "to keep members and staff safe from those looking to score quick political points," he said. "Stopping the spread of a deadly virus should not be a partisan issue."

While Grijalva and Gohmert are the two most recent, multiple federal lawmakers in both parties have had the virus. At least five other House members have announced they tested positive: Republican Reps. Morgan Griffith of Virginia, Mario Diaz-Balart of Florida and Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania, and Democratic Reps. Joe Cunningham of South Carolina and Ben McAdams of Utah. Democratic Rep. Nydia Velázquez of New York has said she had "been diagnosed with presumed coronavirus infection."

On the Senate side, Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia announced in May that he and his wife tested positive for coronavirus antibodies. In late March, Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky tested positive but has since recovered.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Why is it that not one of the Republican officeholders objecting to Biden's victory have objected to their own wins on the same day on the same ballots using the same election systems??!

Eventually everyone will have become infected, unless the virus is exterminated somehow. And the only way for that to happen is enough to be immune so that herd immunity is achieved.

It is not like there is anything tricky about this.
We should all know this already, since there have been epidemics forever, and only herd immunity has ever ended any of them.

This is not an epidemic it is a pandemic. We all get herd immunity, you don't have to keep repeating it. Another thing you are missing, we are mobile, persons move from one continent to another. We could get a vaccine in the US be immune but if we go to a country whose population didn't get a vaccine and the virus mutated we are back to where we started. That is why finding a cure for the common cold, has so far been impossible.

I am not sure anyone is getting the idea of how herd immunity works, because masks and social distancing prevents herd immunity, and therefore increases the final death toll.

With a pandemic, one also has the option of quarantine instead of herd immunity. Course it is too late for that in the US now.

Vaccines are fine, but they obviously are no good for novel hybrids, since they take too long, and are useless once we have herd immunity from other means.

But the way I see the common cold is that we already are immune to it, since it does not kill us. When people are first exposed to the common cold, it often times does kill. It is only after your immune system gets good at fighting rhinovirus that it does not kill you. The fact we get sniffles is our immune system fighting the rhinovirus, not that the cold is winning.

So a virus has to kill us before it is significant in disease, do you realize what the common cold costs per year in medical expenses or that the common cold could be the answer to more deadly viruses that infect? I think not.

I do not expect the immune system to preform miracles.
The fact the common cold no longer kills us and the immune system only takes a week or less to defeat, seems pretty good to me.

Remember that North American natives without previous exposure to the common cold, had a very high mortality rate at first.
The common cold IS VERY lethal was my point. So I am very happy with how our immune system handles it and prevents death.

The common cold is a virus, it makes you feel like !@#$ but does not do what covid does, it is does not do what the flu can do, or meningitis, Hepatitis, AIDS, cancer. Native Americans did not have a "high mortality rate" to the common cold, what they had in high mortality rate was, smallpox, measles, bubonic plague, typhoid, diptheria, cholera and chicken pox. You have no point with the common cold is lethal. It takes a severely compromised immunity system for a cold to kill you.

Wrong!
The common cold can be fatal if you do not have immunity.
The American natives did have a high mortality rate to the common cold until they achieved immunity.
There were examples in Hawaii, Polynesia, etc., where no other illnesses were brought by Europeans at the time, except for rhinovirus, that still brought high death rates to natives.
The bubble boy also is an example of how it is our immune system that saves us from death by rhinovirus.
Newborn get immunity from mother's milk.
The fact immunity to the common cold is so universal, does not at all mean it is not lethal to those without it.
Even with immunity, we still can feel awful from the common cold, so it should not be so hard to imagine it being fatal if one had no immunity.

Again, covid-19 itself does not do much harm.
It is the over reaction by the immune system that causes all of the harm. Without immunity to rhinovirus, you get the same over reaction.

No, I am not wrong. Since you like stats, Rhinovirus deaths without complications of flu/pneumonia are 4,500 a year, which I assume under the current circumstances this number would be insignificant. I know what Euros brought, it has nothing to do with now. Covid does not do much harm, tell patients who've been in the hospital for weeks or months and have much rehab ahead of them. I don't get that denial. Hospital personnel, families and patients are not liars!

Rhino virus deaths are low now, but that is because we do have immunity to it.
The Native Americans did not.
About 90% of the Native Americans died from about 1720 to 1820. About 9 million dealths.

Again, there are NO patients being killed by covid-19.
They are being killed from their own immune system over reacting. The cytokine storm.
Which every one should be extremely suspicious over, since we have lots of immuno suppressant drugs that likely should be effective.
The whole pandemic is extremely suspicious.
