ever get the feeling that you were cheated?
23 people left on a remote Scottish island for a year to film a documentary about founding a new society werent told that the series had been axed after only 4 episodes and that essentially they had spent the next 11 months enduring the hardships of living rough and foraging for food for nothing!
I saw the first couple of programmes they were hysterical, one guy wanted to build the camp on the leeward side of the island - which routinely gets 100mph winds in the winter - but every one else wanted to build on the other side "because the views were better", so he went off and made his own hut on the leeward side and was ostracised and denied food by the others.
a woman refused to forage for food or do any work because it interfered with her meditation and yoga time - was later voted group masseuse (really!)
despite not bothering to build anything with any prospect of surviving the winter gales they did build a sauna
Any way they eventually got off the island knowing nothing about Brexit or the rise of Donald Trump and to be told that no one saw them!

What reason did the organisers of this madness give for letting it continue without informing the participants?

There was one in 2000 called "Castaways" in the Hebrides. It was excellent and all but a few lasted. One of the men came to be a travel type journalist on tv after and he got a flesh eating disease while in South America, I think, do you remember Ben Fogle, Mary?

Ben Fogle is EVERYWHERE! he is TV's Mr Goodguy.
Castaway was actually very good (aside from the A-hole Doctor and his family)

beyond the hope that they could salvage a onehour special at the end I dont know - I suppose every one was already paid so it cost nothing to let it run on
