Should the police have weaponized drones?

Should the police have weaponized drones?

Weaponized drones represent the future of policing, experts say — and could be a necessary option in moments when innocent lives are at stake.

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/weaponized-drones-connecticut-bill-would-allow-police-use-lethal-force-n745291

[ There are both pros and cons to this idea but overall I wonder how far will we go to turn our police into an occupying military? The idea of a police officer sitting in a armored trailer possibly miles away from the action and killing someone with an weaponized drone is creepy. Our inner cities could turn into Afghanistan-like battle fields. What do you think of the idea?]

I can certainly think of situations here where they would have been very useful.

Often here snipers situated behind rioters fire at the police who because of the riot are not able to identify the shooter (very hard to concentrate on spotting a muzzle flash when some one is throwing petrol bombs at you!) a weaponised drone could identify and 'neutralise' the sniper.

But we do have a fairly unusual policing situation

I don't think they should. Have any of you ever watched Cops where they have been known to bust the doors and windows out on the wrong house!?!

The drones will be operated by someone who has the potential to not use good judgement.

and you have never made a mistake?

Assuming that you are referring to the TV show "Cops" yes I have seen it and what amazes me is the general behaviour of the police and the way in which they interact with people - and the way people interact with them.

almost every one adopts a subservient attitude, "yes sir, no sir" and the police - despite knowing that they are on camera for all to see adopt and overbearing attitude

You can legally authorize the police to do anything you have a right to do yourself, but you can NOT authorize police to do anything you can NOT do you do yourself.

If you think about something like parking tickets, you CAN write a ticket for someone's car as long as it is parked on your property, and they saw the parking contract before they parked.
The police just have wider jurisdiction because roads are community property.

So if you let police have weaponized drones, that means they have to be available to everyone.
Not only does that sound like a bad idea, but I doubt it is a good idea to allow police to use any drones at all, since the temptation to not get a warrant would be too great.

OMG, I thought mais oui was a mad dog and I killed her, but it's okay, given here feelings about mistaken identity manslaughter :
"and you have never made a mistake?"

So it goes.
I'll say a Rosary for her and then forget 'bout it.

From my experience of American police behaviour, they are not safe when using any weapon.

Don't be silly. I think most of us in America expect our cops not to make mistakes on their shift.

I do expect cops not to break down my door or knock out windows, if they should be at my neighbors. I doubt seriously you get a second chance if they get you with a drone.

but in reality EVERYONE makes mistakes, cops, surgeons, dentists, plumbers electriciams hairdressers EVERYONE.

Mistakes should be minimised and those who make them held accountable but there is nothing that can be done to stop them

Re: Should the police have weaponized drones?

The prime rule of weapons is that no one is ever to point one anywhere near to anyone, unless they intend to kill them.

But that is impossible with a weaponized drone.
With a weaponized drone, the only way you can ever see where you are aiming the weapon is if the weapon is always permanently aimed where ever the drone is heading.

A weaponized drone violates the rules of weapons handling, and ensures accidents by mechanical or human malfunctions, by putting control over deadly force behind a tiny little fuzzy screen and radio controlled solenoids that can be activated by being too close to car starting up.
