There are little things you can do, when I pass someone in the street no matter what they look like or their fad is, I always smile and say hello, most the times in a line I will exchange pleasantries, when someone almost hits me while driving and looks as surprised as I do, I do not flip them off or swear at them, I wave and say it's okay, as I have been the one to almost hit a car. Kids have other persons in their lives besides parents, set an example.

I do the same Katie.

You're right kids have other persons in their lives...but who bears the greater responsibility?...parents or others?

We as a society can only do so much.

So John, as to your last post would not these behind the scenes limited volume protesters have remained in the background growing ever less and less in volume if the statues had not just been left alone? The act of attacking a inanimate object to present a objectionable perception seems to stir the objectionable reactions and a growth in objectionable responses.

The term "Leave Sleeping Dogs Lie" comes to mind.

I return to my OP; Is it not in the basis of the Do-Gooders' to stir the pot and keep the objectionable behavior in the forefront for another windmill for the Don Quixote's to challenge?

They make their own objectionable issues battles as they go from that which is slowly evaporating/dissolving to time.

The "do-gooders" have waited over 150 years - how long does it take?

As long as it does take. If the pressure is applied at the wrong time the entire action becomes a reaction, as seen in these reports.

Get off the statues, get off the entire 'Cleansing' program, leave the LIMITED volume of haters to die off and yes it will take time but as time continues on and these type cleansing excursions continue all it does is infuriate more people that were borderline and draw those that were well into the background back to the fore front gaining support.

Stupid is as stupid does. Leave the Sleeping Dog Lie.

Ever played in fire, every poke and twist, every effort to smother or split becomes a reaction to flare. And no, pouring water on it will not always douse the fire. Allowing it to ash over, allowing it to keep packing down and leaving it be it will die of its own weight. Same is true for a wound if picked at incessantly that refuses to stop bleeding and so on and so on.

There is no "sleeping dog," he is awake, active and having at it across this nation. Turning the blind eye isn't working, never has, never will.

The wound was started even before the U.S. was a nation. It's called slavery.

The bleeding continued for a few hundred years.

The picking at that wound was done by Confederate apologists, segregationists, and racists that refused to let it fade into the past.

They are the ones that never let our country heal over slavery and the Civil War, who act like the South should have won and they wish the South had won. They are the ones flying the flag of a country that hasn't existed for over 150 years.

And yet the actual cause for secession was not the call to end slavery, historic records show the adverse affect of taxation, increased loads of taxes on cotton, and other southern products going north while the northern production companies received cheaper goods to sell products at higher prices that was seen. It all added up and then the abolition after the secession by Lincoln which led to the current philosophy (albeit incorrect) that the war was fought strictly over anti-slavery.

Go back to the records and learn before you spout on variables that occurred later.

I don't think anyone misses that point and considering slaves were property and part of economic production for the south the two are tied together.
