Why are the Dems in the doghouse?

Because people are ignorant.

It isn't that Democrats as a party are perfect, but Republicans - at least in states and the federal government - have become horrible.

They elected a woman who said;

“This is an example of the fundamental difference between a liberal and a conservative: I do not support a livable wage,” she said on Atlanta’s WSB-TV in response to a viewer question about raising the minimum wage. “What I support is making sure that we have an economy that is robust with low taxes and less regulation.”
https://www.dailykos.com/story/2017/6/6/1669544/-Karen-Handel-I-do-not-support-a-livable-wage

They still believe in the same old trickle down crap - cut taxes and reduce regulations, which is great for corporations and the wealthy - then they wait for good paying jobs that never come.

She is far from ignorant. A robust economy stimulates jobs available giving value to employees where a company will pay more to gain then retain them.

A robust economy isn't created by cutting taxes and regulations.

John seems to be taking the approach that people disagree with him because they are ignorant.

The bottom line is that the Democrats aren't in the doghouse - they are just losing elections they weren't going to win anyway.

First of all, that isn't what I said.

Second, the question is; Why weren't they going to win? There is no reason any area has to go red or blue.

People are ignorant when they are continually fooled election after election and vote against their own best interests.

They are told 'We will cut taxes (for the wealthy) and you will benefit. We will remove regulations (on corporations) and you will benefit.'

Those benefits never arrive.

Things like minimum wage are absurd.
You either create jobs through socialist government, or you support capitalist unions so everyone has collective bargaining representation. Things like minimum wage are neither and do nothing by cause problems.
Its just feel good campaigning.
Pick one or the other, but don't just pretend.

John, instead of blaming voters for being ignorant, you need to look at the Democratic party and the Democrats running in these elections for your answer as to why they lost. They are clearly out of touch with the voters in their districts. It would have taken some compromising in political dogma to appeal to the moderate voters in these districts and increase the vote totals for the Democrats. But increasingly, Democrats are unwilling to do that, so they lose and then really lose because they don't have the votes in the House to influence policy.

It's not the voters who are at fault because they don't agree with left-wing Democratic party dogma, it's the Democrats' fault for not moderating their stances to attract the people in the middle.

I would go much further and say current democrats are not at all "left wing".
They are not supporting unions, jobs, housing, etc.
They are not keeping us out of wars, infesting in education or infrastructure, etc.
They only support big business like banks and GM.
They are republicans, except without the good parts like avoiding debt.

If people are going to vote for candidates like Trump, I will call them ignorant.

As I've said, Democrats are by no means perfect, but citizens are voting for candidates that don't know what they are doing.

You say that Democrats are not "moderating their stances"? Seriously?

Ossoff said that “the minimum wage should be a living wage”, which is what FDR said when it was started. Handel said "I do not support a livable wage".

She - like so many other Republicans - thinks that by lowering taxes and reducing regulations the economy will improve and good paying jobs will be created.

That's bull.

Look at Handel's stand on issues. She wants to build Trump's wall and agrees with Trump's military increase of billions all while cutting taxes.

So you're saying people who disagree with you are ignorant.
