Is the American Empire over?
Its quite clear that our influence around the world is dissipating. Trump is not helping in any conceivable way. The world seems to look at him as a buffoon and so do many of us as well. No one seems to trust our word anymore and wherever the president goes around the world you can see world leaders smiling and turning away to talk with other leaders. The NATO meeting was a good example. They just couldn't believe this guy!
All we have left is our wealth and incredibly large military forces. Any respect the world had for us seems to be disappearing fast. We can't influence the world by our military force alone. We must have a moral code that has proven to work. A democracy and economic system that has proven to work. Most important ethics and principle's that at one time helped define us as a people. Trump doesn't give a damn about any of that and I for one believe he is mentally ill. What do you think?

We should not have to be the moral code for the rest of the world, we should not have to adjust as a nation for acceptance to the rest of the world any more than any other nation has to.
If the US is a less influential mark on the globe then it is another's turn in the barrel to be so. If the other nations have little respect for the US maybe it is time we introvert and allow them to realize on their own their own independence of us or to have to come to grips with reality if they are dependent on the US and make the effort to respect us as we are not for what they wish to see.

we still have the largest world economy.

China 14.84%
Japan 5.91%
Germany 4.5%
U.K. 3.9%
France 3.3%

that said China economy grew by 6.7% in 2016 and India grew by 6.7% American economy only grew by 1.6% so if this keeps up China will dominate us by 2050, then India and the US will be 3rd.

With the economics you can add the military and our MIC all over the world. Even with Trump I don't think anyone should sell short the power in this country.

China's economics are joined to the US by debt and purchase. US fails so too China as the large part of their sales as well debt holding is us.

I really wish it would be over, since empires are evil by nature,
But unfortunately it seems it will take a long time yet.
Trump is no help, and may actually increase our power.
No one country should be powerful.
That is what the UN should be for.
But the US controls the UN instead of the other way around.

The happiest persons on earth seem to be the ones that aren't power players so I definitely agree to not holding the position or even playing the game. I heard on BBC World that Macron is trying to make a move to be the #1 power in Europe, you really don't want to do that, you are in deep enough.

Which means that China can destroy the US economy without even trying. All they've got to do is dump a chunk of their US gov't bond holdings on the market and it's game over.
As an observation, when Trump pulled the US out of the TPP the US lost any input into what may well become the largest trading block in the world. At a minimum he gave China a gift of immeasurable value.
