13th Doctor Who to be a woman

Even if you're not a fan of the show as I am, you may find it interesting that after 12 men have played the role they have now opted for a woman.
I suspected this was coming.

When I was a kid in Britain I thought Dr Who was silly. Any change of that opinion would be that I think it is very silly.

Science fiction is actually just a ruse to put everyday ethical questions into a different setting, so that you can escape your preconceptions.
It is like when the episode of "Star Trek" had a race of aliens who had 2 forms of being half white and black, but were mirror image of each other. Obviously the need for racial distinction there was totally unnecessary, but it was to point out that there is also no need when the races are pure white and pure black.
Dr. Who is often replaying Shakespeare, but in a different setting. The witches of "McBeth" are actually science fiction of the time.
The point is suspension of disbelief, in order to allow poetic license.

My husband was 9 when it started, he thought it awesome, considering at the time there were 2 stations on tv, BBC had one and ITV the other, his thrill didn't last very long though. I can't stand it. I couldn't stand Star Trek either, I did not find it a learning experience or enjoyable. Enjoying sci-fi like that for me started with Star Wars.

Sorry, but the fact "Star War" failed to continue the morality play of sci fi, is why it started bombing. "Star Wars" is not good sci fi, so is not really good at all. Only the first was good, because they gave the Force a sense of morality, good and evil, and Alec Guinness played it like a morality play.
All the rest were pretty much junk, in my opinion.

I wasn't interested in the morality, it's sci fi space, I was interested in the bells and whistles, if I want morality or ethics I'll read philosophy not watch a sci fi movie.

So the whole Force, Dark Side, etc. meant nothing to you?

You can't actually learn morality or ethics from reading what someone else is preaching.
You have to have example sneak it in, like sci fi, because you already have too many preconceptions. The point of sci fi is to be able to actually alter your conditioning. You can't do that intellectually.

If I want to learn morality it certainly wouldn't be from Star Trek or Star Wars, nor did I. What makes reading different from a movie script? You read it, they produce it on film, at the end of the day it still is one persons opinion and view, whether in a book or in a film, a poem, a speech or any way it is delivered or anyway you wish to receive it.
