GOP turns on Trump:

GOP turns on Trump:

Members of Congress in President Donald Trump's own party were among those lawmakers quick to criticize comments the President made in a news conference that laid blamed on both sides of protesters at a rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, that turned violent over the weekend.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/15/politics/congress-reaction-trump-comments-paul-ryan/index.html

[This is good news but the question is what now? Its time for the two parties to get together and find a way to get rid of him. I have long thought that if Trump gets really angry he will resign. If Congress refuses to pass anything he wants that could do it. I know Pence is no deal either but I do believe as an old time politician he can be controlled by his party. No one can control Trump! Its time for the parties to unite in getting rid of racist, pussy grabber Donald J. Trump.]

I think it's time to get rid of him, too, way past time. Pence is terrible, but he's not likely to nuke North Korea. He's not a loose cannon.

This may be first. I agree with both Rose and Belle. I agree with them about both Trump and Pence. Here is where they may disagree with me I actually believe the best course for the country is to rid ourselves of both Trump AND Pence. Paul Ryan is far from perfect But for countless reasons he is vastly superior to these two bozos.
And given the present day numbers in Congress, Ryan is basically the best we canhope for.

By the way. What in the world are you doing up at this hour of the morning Belle?

I do disagree with you about replacing Mike Pence with Paul Ryan, Hawk. Ryan is not as bad as Pence in some ways, but he is more likely to appeal to moderates than Pence, and therefore would be more likely to be re-elected in 2020.

To answer your question, Hawk: I'm always up at this hour. I go to bed between 5 and 6. My brain collapses around 4 in the afternoon, and wakes up around 2 in the morning. Plays hell with my social life.

Belle we have to remember that I am a so-called moderate. Although I hate the term moderate. I am simply a pro-business, free trading fiscal conservative who is a liberal on social issues, the environment, and foreign policy. And as a centrist and political pragmatist I am only interested in what is good for the country. I am not a damned bit interested in what is good in the short term for the Democratic Party or the Republican Party.

Consequently, at this moment, given the alternatives, I believe Paul Ryan to be the best alternative for the country. And to hell with the Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, and Green Parties. It is up to them to identify winnable candidates and conduct the types of campaigns that will elect their candidates and establish their platforms in 2020.

Paul Ryan, though, wants to do away with affordable health care and weaken Medicare (if not ultimately do away with it too). It's not a matter of party with me either, except that those in power who are for what I am for are Democrats, and those who are against it are Republicans. When I was young, it was Democrats in the South who were keeping Jim Crow alive, and Republicans (as well as Democrats) in the North who wanted to do away with Jim Crow. I was a Democrat in the South, but in the liberal Democratic minority, fighting against the racist Democratic majority.

The Democrats in the South back in those days gradually moved to today's GOP.

I think Trump's ego is too big for him to resign. I don't see anyone in the line of succession that I want in The White House. In fact, I'd like to fire the government and start over.

The problem is Pence is that he is anti-public education and for religious government. That means that I cannot in any way want a President Pence.

Isn't Ryan for vouchers to let kids go to private schools, even parochial ones, Cooter? But I can't say that he is better than Pence or even as bad as Pence. But I believe he could get more done than Pence because he has more power in the Congress, and would have more backing (for his more moderate) programs in the populace. I don't believe Pence could be re-elected, and I think Ryan could.

I used to kind of like Ryan at one time, but he has moved further to the right in order to keep his job, IMO. He would give big tax cuts to the already rich and essentially do away with programs that help those who need it.

I'm all for a total re-write of the tax code and cutting spending. There are plenty of places to cut other than Medicare and Medicaid. I'm for a strong military, but our waste there for political gain is astronomical.

Vouchers and charter schools in and of themselves won't help education. That takes parental and community involvement, and that's not happening in too many places. Where I live in Mississippi has one of the better public education school districts in the country. It can be done.
