Watching the solar eclipse on your computer:

https://www.nasa.gov/eclipse2017

[If you're in an area where you can't get a good view of the eclipse or you don't have protective glasses you can watch the whole thing safely with NASA on your computer. This is what I am going to do. Enjoy!]

Here's an article about how to watch the eclipse if you don't have special glasses:

Am I the only person who is not all excited about two minutes of darkness? Like Nick Sagan, the football coach at the University of Alabama, I'll watch a recap on television. Besides, we are outside the path of totality, and we are under severe thunderstorm forecast for the entire day in any event. So is anyone other than Katie and Cooter in the actual path?

I'm in the path, and I want to see it. It's a rare natural phenomenon.

Do you all remember the section in Connecticutt Yankee where the Yankee proved his powers by making the moon eclipse the sun? I wonder if I can find that by googling.

Re: Watching the solar eclipse on your computer:

I googled "Connecticutt Yankee in King Arthur's Court eclipse" and got a link to chapter 6, the text of the eclipse episode. Another link gave me a summary of the episode:

The Eclipse

The day of the execution arrives and the Yankee is dragged out of his cell. The Yankee despairs because the execution has been moved up by one day, and now it's before the eclipse, which perfectly mucks up his whole scheme. The court (which clearly has nothing better to do… like running the country) has assembled to watch him burn.

Clarence proudly reveals that he set the execution day forward to better take advantage of the court's fear.

Clarence begs Hank not to permanently damage the sun, and the Yankee, in his despair, assures him that he won't.

As the soldiers tie the Yankee to the stake, new hope arises: the eclipse begins, and the court freaks out.

Merlin commands the torch be lit, while Arthur tells them to halt the execution. The Yankee also commands everyone to halt, lest he send lightning down to destroy them.

In a very unkingly display, Arthur begs the Yankee to restore the sun. Hank the Yank asks for time to consider—you know, since he doesn't actually have control over the eclipse.

While he "considers," the Yankee realizes that Clarence screwed up the dates, which was extremely lucky for him since it allowed him to pull off his ruse.

The Yankee claims that he will spare the sun if the king makes him his prime minister, and pays him one percent of the kingdom's net growth every year.

The king rapidly agrees, and the Yankee is set free and clothed in royal garments.

LOL No you are not alone! I have no interest in exposing any part of my eyeballs to this two minute wonder. It's not really going through Arkansas..but we can supposedly view it !?! I'm staying inside with the blinds closed.....just to stay on the safe side. emoticon

I saw the total eclipse on TV on MSNBC, the pictures from Oregon.

The sun was still bright in parts of my yard, but dark shadows crept over other parts.
