America's ban of "Haggis" may soon be lifted. Oh Joy!!!
America's ban of "Haggis" may soon be lifted. Oh Joy!!!
http://money.cnn.com/2016/11/23/news/companies/haggis-ban-exports/index.html
"Americans may soon get the chance to eat authentic Scottish haggis in their home country."
[To say haggis is an acquired taste is a mammoth understatement. When in Scotland I felt it my duty to at least taste this atrocity and gagged on it. So did my sister. Even if we didn't know what was in it [ and we did ] we still would have damn near threw up on the taste of it. I wasn't aware that it was banned in America but now have learned this ban may be lifted. Just think we could go to the local supermarket and buy the monstrous concoction! Will you be in the lineup to get some?]

Its vile it tastes pretty much the way you would expect a minced up mixture of heart lungs and liver mixed with oatmeal to taste

Yes, it is gross; a culinary travesty.

This is one of those rare occasions where I agree with both Yobbo and Mary. It is beyond disgusting And is reason enough why Scotland should never be granted independence. ;-)

Never had it myself, but does not sound much different than most sausage, except for the oatmeal part. Although in most countries you add lots of spice like chorizo, liverwurst, blood sausage, peppery summer sausage, black pudding, minced meat cloves, pepperoni, etc.

there is oatmeal in British black pudding - (usually it depends on where it comes from)

GoHawk you obviously know little of Scottish 'cuisine' - haggis is the very least of it!!!
Other delicacies include, chocolate bars deep fried in batter (seriously) deep fried pizza, deep fried pies and macaroni cheese in a pie

Although I think haggis also has partially chewed grass or chud? Not really sure.

Not in my somewhat limited experience, just good stuff like heart lungs liver minced up and stuffed inside a sheep bowel (they will tell you its the stomach but its not the stomach would be far too big)

although haggis is often served boiled (yuck) it can also be found shallow fried (vile) or deep fried in abtter (possibly the least unpalatable)
Ive never encountered haggis pizza but haggis pakora are common
