Trump threatens to abandon Puerto Rico

Trump threatens to abandon Puerto Rico recovery effort

By Philip Rucker October 12 at 7:55 AM

President Trump served notice Thursday that he may pull back federal relief workers from Puerto Rico, effectively threatening to abandon the U.S. territory amid a staggering humanitarian crisis in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

Declaring the U.S. territory's electrical grid and infrastructure to have been a “disaster before hurricanes,” Trump wrote Thursday that it will be up to Congress how much federal money to appropriate to the island for its recovery efforts and that recovery workers will not stay “forever.”

In a trio of tweets, Trump wrote” “We cannot keep FEMA, the Military & the First Responders, who have been amazing (under the most difficult circumstances) in P.R. forever!”

Three weeks since Maria made landfall, much of Puerto Rico, an island of 3.4 million people, the vast majority of the island remains without power. Residents struggle to find clean water, hospitals are running short on medicine and commerce is slow with many businesses closed.

Trump on Thursday sought to shame the territory for its own plight. He tweeted, “Electric and all infrastructure was disaster before hurricanes.” And he quoted Sharyl Attkisson, a television journalist, as saying, “Puerto Rico survived the Hurricanes, now a financial crisis looms largely of their own making.”

He recently bitterly complained about a lack of "appreciation" for the amazing job he has done for Puerto Rico. This is his usual petty response when he feels some people don't adore him.

I haven't turned the TV on today, but I'm wondering what Fox News will have to say about this.

Make no mistake about it. If I were a resident of Puerto Rico, I would shift my allegiance from a campaign for Puerto Rican statehood to my support for Puerto Rican independence. Because it is obvious that Trump is not the President of the Puerto Rican people.

In my own case, I once again reaffirm that I am an American by accident of birth in 1950; I am an Italian by United Nations edict in 1954; and that first last and always I am a Triestino by the grace of God. And two and a half more months and Donald Trump can kiss my 67 year old arse as I leave him in the dust.

The Jones Act of 1916 alone is like slavery.
Forcing only US ships to be used prevents direct trade with any other country.
I would demand independence if I were them, so that they could then declare bankruptcy on all their old debt, just like Trump has done so many times.

Three weeks is forever? Can't he at least get the lights on. What is forever is the last 9 months.

There has only been one time in my lifetime that I felt the removal a sitting President was justified. And of course that was Richard Nixon. And thankfully he did the entire nation s giant favor, and tendered is resignation. Unfortunately trump does not have that much respect for his nation. And I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that one way or other (impeachment or 25th Amendment).
Trump ne reds to be removed. So that the adults can once again be in control of the White House.

The Holoy Gaspel according to St. Hawk of Fayette.

See https://youtu.be/hKtPa0tZ8Ig

or read : The Philosophy Of The 'Useless Eaters' - Rense
rense.com/general78/philo.htm

It is a deplorable real thing and Trump fits the profile of its advocates.
So I'm wanting to ask if this action is not an act of class warfare ?
I think it is time to really look objectively at Trump's actions in those terms.

BUT were we humane progressives as well funded and organized as the conservative corporatist elitist, the white supremacists and alt white nationalists (think the Koch Bro. think tanks) we'd be a large committee and would spend a week or two making a good living doing nothing but refining the message, finding the political correct terms and not just jump in as I must with plain spoken terms, that the very well paid right wing "opinion maker ", the neo-nasty PR hacks and organized haters ALREADY HAVE STOCK REPLIES TO !!!.
Platitudes of Orwellian Newspeak, that blame any class struggle on the "them people" ... who are seen as the useless eaters by the haters.

So they win, as you can never solve a problem if its existence is just denied.
Global warming
Social justice
Police shooting of minorities
... are few examples that come quickly to mind, that are being/have been handled by the propaganda tactics of the right wing extremists ... and its establishment, too, come to think of it.

# "right to life" really just means more big government control of others life and opportunities.

what happened in Florida and Texas was hurricane damage, what happened to PR was a catastrophe.

i read that in the article geezess posted.
i agree. Even if Trump thinks he can abandon PR, congress just funded PR relief efforts.

However, Trump governs by sabotage, and i don't know if these funds will get to PR.

i keep on waiting for Trump to build bridges to get things done. I fear it will never happen.
