Interesting video ... continuing on that topic ....

White Christians are now a minority — but they’re getting more isolated and less tolerant
Religious homophobia is driving away young people, but evangelical leaders double down on anti-LGBT bigotry

Last week, the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) put out a new report on religion in America that measured a truly remarkable shift: For the first time, almost certainly in the country’s history, people who identify as white Christians are a minority of Americans. Four out of every five Americans were self-described white Christians in 1976, but now that group only constitutes 43 percent of the U.S. population.

There are a lot of reasons for this shift ...

Would the atheists posting here like to see Christianity disappear completely from America except as something talked about on trips to museums and in history books?

As well as all other religions, not just Christianity?

It would indicate improved intelligence.

No, it wouldn't indicate that. Intelligent people can believe in all sorts of things that aren't necessarily true or good. Look at all the intelligent Americans who believe that our jury system works well. Then there's intelligent Americans who believe in the "war on drugs."

What people believe in is not contingent on their intelligence.

If they are intelligent then they aren't thinking logically which rather questions their intelligent. Very circular discussion.

It would be a circular discussion if we weren't talking about two different things. Intelligence and one's use of logic are not at all the same thing.

If human beings could rely on their intelligence then the world would be a very different place than what it is. Certainly it would be one with fewer problems caused by humans.

Even people with very high IQ scores on the genius or near genius level can do things that go against logic. For example, some of our worst self-destructive criminals have had a high level of intelligence.

Religion increasingly seen as doing more harm than good in Canada: Ipsos poll

Just over half of Canadian respondents say they believe religion does more harm than good in the world, according to a new survey.

The Ipsos poll, conducted for Global News, showed that 51 per cent of respondents agreed with the above statement.

Australians are among the most skeptical people in the world when it comes to religion.

That's the finding from an international survey of 17,400 people in 23 countries which found most Aussies believe religion does more harm than good.

Belgians were the most likely to think the bad outweighs the good when it comes to religion (68 per cent), with almost two thirds of Australians, Germans and Spaniards sharing that sentiment, the Ipsos Global dvisor survey released on Thursday showed.

Most British people think religion causes more harm than good according to a survey commissioned by the Huffington Post.

Surprisingly, even among those who describe themselves as “very religious” 20 percent say that religion is harmful to society. For that we can probably thank the internet, which broadcasts everything from Isis beheadings, to stories about Catholic hospitals denying care to miscarrying women, to lists ofwild and weird religious beliefs, to articles about psychological harms from Bible-believing Christianity.

Fundamentalism, racism, fear and propaganda: An insider explains why rural, Christian white America will never change

As the aftermath of the election of Donald Trump is still being sorted out, a common theme keeps cropping up from all sides: “Democrats failed to understand white, working-class, fly-over America.”

Trump supporters are saying this. Progressive pundits are saying this. Talking heads across all forms of the media are saying this. Even some Democratic leaders are saying this. It doesn’t matter how many people say it, it is complete bullshit. It is an intellectual/linguistic sleight of hand meant to throw attention away from the real problem. The real problem isn’t east coast elites who don’t understand or care about rural America. The real problem is rural America doesn’t understand the causes of their own situations and fears and they have shown no interest in finding out. They don’t want to know why they feel the way they do or why they are struggling because they don’t want to admit it is in large part because of choices they’ve made and horrible things they’ve allowed themselves to believe.
