A view of the Bible's treatment of women

How the Bible Paints Women as Liars and Whores
Theology professor Candida Moss has a column in the Daily Beast arguing that the response from the Christian right, which paints Roy Moore’s accusers as liars who were asking for it, is consistent with and reinforced by many stories in the Bible and its general treatment of women.

In much of the bible, particularly the Old Testament, the treatment of women is ghastly. I'd be interested if a Christian would counter what is said in this article.

I'll have to get back here to read the article, but from what you've said, well, yes, I guess so ... it all started with Eve as far as I can tell. She was portrayed as weak of mind or easy to give into temptation.

which came first the bird or the egg?

here is a link that explains where the stories from the bible came from.

anyway, the bible stories were lifted or pulled together from different stories from different continents and they all seems to share a common thread. Women were the seductresses, liars, and weak minded just like your author pointed out.

So you can blame the bible, or you can blame the time period it was written in. The problem we have with Christianity right now is people like Moore thump their bible to justify their disgusting behavior.

The story of the flood was prompted in many Near Eastern religions by a massive flood that occurred in Mesopotamia >2000 years ago. The Zoroastrian religion took this and made up the details copied by the precursors to the Jews and subsequently the Jews themselves.

The account of that is much as the article you posted, the others are all true too.
