Lewinsky insists on title change for documentary about her

Monica Lewinsky objected to the title of an HLN special — and the network changed it

By Helena Andrews-Dyer November 29 at 12:53 PM

Monica Lewinsky publicly complained Tuesday about the title of an upcoming HLN documentary focused on the scandal around the relationship between the former White House intern and President Bill Clinton. By Wednesday morning, the network changed the title.

Beginning Dec. 3, HLN will air a two-part episode of its true crime series, “How it Really Happened,” about Clinton and Lewinsky that details the affair, the fallout and the household names that followed. The network originally titled the special “The Monica Lewinsky Scandal,” but Lewinsky was not having it.

Lewinsky, who has emerged from her scandal-scarred past as an anti-bullying activist, suggested her own corrections to the name. She retweeted Tuesday a promo for the special, drawing a red line over the words “The Monica Lewinsky Scandal” and replacing it with her own suggestions: “The Starr Investigation” or “The Clinton Impeachment.”

“Fixed it for you. You’re welcome,” she tweeted.

And HLN was clearly paying attention.
On its website, the website is now promoting the episode with the a tweaked name.

“Taking into account recent events, and to more accurately represent the storyline, the episode is now titled ‘The Clinton-Lewinsky Scandal,'” Alison Rudnick, HLN’s vice president of communications, said in a statement.

Lewinsky has yet to respond to the network’s change.

They didn't improve the title at all. It was the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal but everyone knows that and would have known that from the title The Monica Lewinsky scandal.

By calling it the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal that just suggests that someone named Clinton-Lewinsky was involved in a scandal. And it wasn't all the Clintons or Lewinskys who were involved in it. Just Monica and Bill.

Calling it the Monica Lewinsky scandal worked just fine but as often happens in this country people try to fix things that aren't broken.

I think it was broken, and I'm glad she got them to fix it. She's standing up for herself. As in the story about the woman taken in adultery who was brought before Jesus and asked whether she should be stoned. Where was the man? Was she committing adultery by herself?

Good point and while I agree that the scandal didn't just involve Monica as I said everyone knows Bill Clinton was involved also. It's not like it was a secret. That scandal received quite a bit of publicity and Bill was mentioned quite often.

Calling it The Monica Lewinsky Scandal was just an easy and accurate way to refer to it. It was The Monica Lewinsky Scandal. And calling it that doesn't let Bill Clinton off the hook just as it didn't let him off the hook while it was more commonly talked about in the media.
