DNC Unity Commission Agrees On Slate Of Historic Reforms

"The Democratic Party comes one step closer to healing the wounds of the 2016 primary."

In a key flashpoint that went viral in progressive circles, Nomiki Konst went on an impassioned ://]rant against those who would stand in the way of greater budget transparency.

“We spent a billion dollars [and] lost the easiest presidential race you could possibly imagine,” she declared. “How are you supposed to rebuild the party if you have no idea where that money was spent?”

If these reforms go into effect it will just be another nail in the coffin of responsible political leadership in the Democrats' nominating process. In 2020 they might end up with Snoop Dogg or Kim Kardashian as their nominee.

No, it wouldn't. The transition of nominating processes to simple popularity contests is what has given us the dolt Donald Trump as President. Democrats are on the verge of gutting the most positive element of either party's process, the superdelegate.

So do Republicans. But the nominating process should be about selecting the best candidate for President, and not simply be a popularity contest. As Trump has proven, the most popular candidate can be an insufferable, incompetent ass. The "superdelegates" (one of the most misrepresentative names you can come up with) were the Democrats' last bastion of consideration of political competence. In the future, if these reforms are adopted, there will be no effective bias toward people who have an understanding of governing.

"Kaine calls for eliminating superdelegates - Hillary Clinton’s VP sides with Bernie Sanders in a fight that’s divided Democrats"

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine is urging the Democratic National Committee to end its tradition of using superdelegates, which activists say diminish the influence of regular voters at the expense of party bigwigs in the presidential nominating process.

"I have long believed there should be no superdelegates. These positions are given undue influence in the popular nominating contest and make the process less democratic,” Kaine wrote in a letter Wednesday to DNC chairman Tom Perez, according to a copy obtained by POLITICO.

Superdelegates have never changed the results of the primaries, giving the nomination to the candidate who finished second in the primaries.

Clean personal record, aggressive in the house, walks a good populist game but realizes that things need to be paid for, from California, Indian-American, beloved by the Bernie-crowd and works well with the Clinton crowd, doesn't take money from PACs nor Corporations, and young (41) with vitality.

This thing about what a democracy is is semantic. There are different kinds of democracy. The U.S. is a representative democracy. Instead of every citizen of voting age being able to vote on every law, every citizen of voting age is permitted under our Constitution to vote, after the 15th and 19th Amendments were ratified. Laws throughout our history have been passed to suppress the vote, but many of those laws have been found unconstitutional. And I'm hoping the latest ones will have the same fate.

Popular, depends on how you view that term, Joe Biden is popular. There is nothing wrong with likeability or being popular, helluva lot better than personally repugnant. I certainly wouldn't elect someone just cause I liked them but I think a rounded positive personality is important in a leader whether the country or a company.

While Yobbo does as so many blindly do here in the States, equate Democratic Party(just words) as to a Democratic effort as to politics which it IS NOT. The point of the matter is ALL politicians in the US are for one and one alone, themselves. To claim they are there for the representation 'Of The People' is BS as the represent Lobbyists from all directions following a money train.

Democrats in the US should be labeled Socialist Party as they only attest to Socializing the entire nation into subservient behavior under the Ruling Class.

So tell me, what is democratic about a nation being led by an executive head of state who received 2% fewer votes than the other candidate?
Indeed what is democratic about how the American government is elected? When great swathes of the population cannot vote for a variety of technical nonsenses.
What is democratic about a nation where the rich get what they want more or less all the time?
What is democratic about a nation that raises one religion on a pedestal and where other religions and atheism are pushed underground?

There were certainly undemocratic things in our Constitution. Slavery, denial of the vote to women, senators appointed instead of elected, the electoral college. Obama talked from time to time about the need to make our government "a more perfect union" (quoting from the Preamble of the Constitution). And over the years, amendments to the Constitution have been made to that end. Have you all read about how democracy rose and fell in Athens? Athens would try different forms of government. Oligarchies would give way to democracy, and in a few decades democracy would give way to oligarchy again, and the cycle would continue. In our country, we have had similar cycles of more and less democratic laws and policies and practices. Since the 1930s, they have corresponded closely to whether Republicans or Democrats were in power.

Mainly Yobbo due to the Electoral system that keeps the Major Metro and high population centers from decreeing politics upon the rest of the nation.
