US Census estimates for 2017

our population is changing people are moving around.

The census for 2017, had some shockers

States that gain a seat:
TX (2 seats, its 37th and 38th seats)
FL (its 28th seats)
NC (its 14th seat)
CO (its 8th seat)
OR (its 6th seat)

States that lose a seat:
NY (down to 26)
PA (down to 17)
IL (down to 17)
MI (down to 13)
MN (down to 7)
WV (down to 2)

Texas moved slightly blue.

Republicans better worry: some of their highest "safe" states are on their way to becoming swing states: GA (16), TX (38), and AZ (11). Now granted, that could also mean that OH and PA would swing to the right, earning them 38 more votes, but it speaks volumes if your biggest safe state will only have 20 EC votes (soon to be 19). Meanwhile CA just went bluer so even though its 55 votes could be reduced to 54, it's still a lot better than 54 swing state votes.

Census for 2017 (July 1) including DC and Puerto Rico

1 California 39,536,653

Interestingly enough, PR's numbers do not include the recent exodus due to Maria. I wouldn't be surprised if the population drops below 3 million by the next estimate or the next census.

I am surprised that the Tax Heist in Connecticut, NY, NJ, with double taxation hasn't gotten more press.

companies are not going to take it.
I have no idea what they are going to do, but they got to do something to appease their stock holders. Either move to other states or go oversea. For now it looks like states are looking to sue the federal government.

What are you basing your appraisal of states going "bluer" on?

You are right to be sceptical, after all, the GOP is very experienced in the art of the gerrymander.

Yes, Americans really haven't bought into this newfangled idea called democracy.

A candidate receives 2% more votes than her (in this case) opponent yet is denied the office. And Americans accept it. You can't call that democracy.

I'm bound to say that the winner is probably marginally less dangerous than the loser but let's be honest, they were both ghastly candidates and you could find better in village halls all over the country.

As to American democracy, the country has been governed by tools of the [sign in to see URL]. for several decades.

You're just confirming my previous post.

The President is elected, not by a single national election of popular vote, but by 51 individual democratic elections in the sovereign entities that constitute the nation. The nationwide popular vote is just tallied for informational purposes and to vex the ignorant.

You'd prefer that the lack of democracy was ignored?

The founding fathers had no trust in democracy, hence the electoral college, good for them, bad for us.
