How do you know how heroin addicts function or those on narcotics?-katie

I've observed people using narcotics. It doesn't impair their functioning. They can drive a motor vehicle as well as someone who isn't using any drug. You can't even tell that they are using a drug.

The only time that narcotics interfere with things like driving is when a person takes too much of them. A therapeutic dose doesn't impair them.

Regardless of those warnings people are not impaired unless they either use too much of the narcotic or mix it with another drug that depresses the central nervous system. They can easily drive and operate heavy machinery with no problem.

There is one caveat. People need to adjust their narcotic use based on their body weight. A heavy person can tolerate more than a lighter person.

That said, a small therapeutic dose is not going to impair any adult.

After a couple days of adjustment a therapeutic dose does not prevent persons from driving, although some persons do remain suspectible. Driving under the influence of pot and certain other drugs, is not a good idea, at all.

If a patient requires a couple days of adjustment to a dose that sounds like they are taking too much. They should be able to achieve beneficial results without needing to adjust to the drug.

Certainly if they experience any drowsiness from a narcotic they are taking too much and need to reduce the dose, not get adjusted to it.

I have read the cautions as to pain meds since the 1970's, they have NOT changed, if are taking them to any considered Higher level DO NOT DRIVE, DO NOT OPERATE MACHINERY. The caveat is if you should and you are in a accident and are tested as to a positive insurance Does NOT have to pay, just as with a alcohol DUI the insurers do not have to pay as is in their small print.

I can attest as to the sensation of being impaired on Demerol, then on high rate of dose for Oxycodone, may not openly or outwardly affect but does cause lack of concentration.

Put those that you are using as confirmed unaffected in a driving simulator, you may be less than impressed as to their abilities while using.

It is not taking to much, it is not being used to narcotics. Post surgical for me taking as directed, one-two every 6-8 hrs., I can tell I'm quite high with percocet or dilaudid for a couple days, that is a normal reaction. It also has made me understand how persons are attracted, it is a great feeling plus no pain, except the first couple weeks after being cut on I still suffer, that has never stopped completely for me and most others. It's often what you do with those left over pills after, ouch I got a headache, narcotic, my knee, my back, got a cold, peps me up makes me feel good and get on with the day till the other side effects set in and you are addicted and spend the day drug seeking.

Lack of concentration? Sounds like you were using just a little too much. Any lack of concentration or drowsiness is an indication of a dose that is too high.

The base line therapeutic dose is not going to significantly reduce your powers of concentration or make you drowsy. You will be able to operate heavy machinery with no problem.

Yes, it is understandable why people can become addicted but being high for a couple of days is just an indication that you haven't developed any tolerance for the drug. That tolerance is something you should seek to avoid because it will mean that you will need to take more of the drug to achieve the same analgesic effect.

In other words the high is a good sign. It is an indication that the drug is being effective. You don't need to become adjusted to the drug in order to lose that high. You need to make sure that the drug continues to be effective.

I would not smoke pot but put some in a brownie and let me at it! Federal law in Canada will make it legal everywhere in the nation on [I believe] July first of this year.

I have developed rapid onset resistance or tolerance to all of the painkillers that were prescribed to me. After as few as couple of days the effect of pain mediation is gone, the 'unbalanced' or 'awkward' feeling remained where concentration was hard to maintain.

I do NOT care for the 'High' if that is what I was feeling, deal with the pain I endure without these days and manage. Tried electro-stimulation at the most recent but to no avail where the Doc believes my nervous system will not accept outside attempts to buffer.

As low a dose as 5mg on Oxy or as high as 30mg had Zero effect on pain, just intensified the crappy feeling. Biggest aid I have encountered is internal alpha-feedback control. Pain gets severe stop what I doing, rest as concentrate on it, drive it down, only way I have been able to manage for the last ten years.

Currently right side SI joint is fully disconnected/dislocated/floating. I pressure it at all in the wrong position is almost a debilitating pain, can drive it back in a few minutes and continue on. Insurance is arguing is Investigatory or Experimental surgery to fuse so Not authorizing, REFUSE to authorize even as denoted as 'Medically Required' so I just deal with it. Sleep 2-3 hours at most at a time, mostly in hour to hour and a half bursts, have to consistently be in motion or at minimal rest to keep it from excruciation levels.
