Within the article also states the attempt to secede is still in the works, but I understood that was ILLEGAL and against Federal Law where the Civil War occurred due to a secession.

First of all, it's not an attempt to secede. It's a proposal to divide the state into two separate states in the same way West Virginia was carved out of Virginia. But it has roughly the same chance to succeed as John McCain has to survive his brain cancer.

They wish to leave the unreasonable Urban areas to themselves. Deeper in the article is a honorable mention of the desire to secede. Thus the added link.

Every so often we have the Republic of Texas nuts raising a ruckasnabout secession. And then there is the occasional movement in Texas to sub -divide into multiple atates. You have tqhe South shall rise again corowd clammeering for secession. The California movements for either dividing the state into two or more states; or for total secession. And you even have the occasional noise from the U.P.ers who wasnt to secede from Michigan and be annexed to Wisconsin. And then across the pond, we have a variety ofseperatist movements, including the one in my home of Trieste that clamors for reestanlishment of the Free Territory of Trieste that the United Nations dissolved in 1954, Most, if not all, of these movements share two common traits. Thay are largely ill-advised, and they are going absolutely nowhere.

Texas would never agree to divide into five states. Do you remember the ruckus Texas raised about admitting Alaska to the Union because that would make Texas the SECOND largest state?
