"World of the Goddess" sounds like an absorbing topic, Geezess, and I wish I could hear it. Unfortunately I can't, and this YouTube version does not have captions.

I can think of two, the mother of Jesus's Mary? and the good Samaritan, she had no name but was a woman. Showing that women were at least listened to, back then.

btw, many people out argued God. Abraham, Moses, etc.

the good Samaritan was not a woman -

But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ - Lk 10 :33-35

I suspect that you are thinking of "the Samaritan by the well" John 4

The answer is an unnamed gentile woman. Both Mark (7:24-30) and Matthew (15:21-28) tell how she approaches Jesus — in Mark’s version, she barges into the house where he’s staying — and begs him to heal her daughter.

Jesus is initially dismissive of her, saying that he will help only his fellow Jews. “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs,” he says (calling someone a dog was a serious insult).

“Yes it is, Lord,” she replies. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

She talks back! She’s feisty! But Jesus then praises her for her “great faith” and heals her daughter. The story can be read as a celebration of a woman who, er, persisted.

you dont have to believe that its true to debate the contents - we could debate the latest Harry Potter book without anyone needing to think it true

Remembering that the authors of the bible were men who lived in very male dominated societies and it's not surprising that women (at least strong women) play at most a minor role in the bible.

After all, according to some scholars, the god of the Bible originally had a wife (Asherah) but she's been edited out of the bible.

Ashera is problematic, whether she is the wife of God is even more so.

Ashera was a female God figure in Canaan, Sumerian and several other civilizations .

She is mentioned several times in the Bible although rarely in a direct way (Jeremiah 7:16-18) more direct references are found in Kings, ( 1 Kings 14:23, 2 Kings 21:7, 2 Kings 23:14) Even though there are several commands to cut down Ashera poles (Exodus 34:13 and Deuteronomy 16:21 )

Moses's staff may be a reference to an "Ashera pole" and indeed the Jewish Menorah may be a stylized reference to an Ashera pole

The subject of the thread is the growing female clergy, which has been called the most important occurrence in Christianity since the Reformation (or something like that, in the OP). I think this is interesting. It is irrelevant to the subject of the thread whether anyone "believes this biblical nonsense."

Not really, if you believe in the sacredness of the Biblical text then female clergy are anathema to you

1 Corinthians 14:33-35

1 Timothy 2:11-12

both the above text prohibit women from speaking in church
