What matters is not whether they were normal but rather whether they were influenced by the film to do what they did. The film didn't turn them into violent criminals but it did have an influence on them and what they did.

The crime I am talking about appeared to have a racist element to it and the film in question was called, "Fuzz." It contained a scene where a homeless man was set on fire. Shortly after it appeared on screens in Boston a young white woman there was doused with gasoline, burned and killed by a group of young black men.

are you saying that prior to the film this had never happened?
or are you just feeding us a 'post hoc ergo propter hoc '

Neither. Prior to someone telling someone to commit murder and that person committing murder murders had taken place but that doesn't mean that a causal connection between the two things didn't exist.

The important question is would a murder have occurred or a murder of that type have occurred if something similar had not been viewed in a film? Would the murderer have even thought about committing such a crime if not prompted by the film?

I read about it, a hate crime just as the one against Matthew Sheppard dragged by a car by the homophobic crowd or the woman in Charlottesville murdered by the white supremist with a car Instead of the movie we should be asking(some we know) but more important dealing and solving , what makes a person hate that much, why are they attaching themselves to groups the vast majority wouldn't go near.

I don't believe that Matthew Sheppard was dragged by a car, that was another case, but you're right that these types of crimes fall into the hate crime category. I suspect a lot of the violence against women involves an element of hate even though it normally isn't thought of that way.

I also agree that it is more important to combat the irrational hatred of some people which leads them to commit such crimes than it is to worry about movies. That said, film producers, like folks in the news media, need to realize that what they put out there can influence people to commit crimes.
