He's typical of murderers in regard to their lack of remorse for their crimes.
The notion that murderers in prison undergo a reformation and become sorry for their crimes is more myth than reality. What some killers like Speck do is reminisce about their crimes and regale other prisoners with stories about them. They may even inspire other violent prisoners to commit similar crimes if those prisoners are paroled.
The notion that keeping cretins like Speck locked up works as well as capital punishment is baloney.

Re: Another reason to have the option of capital punishment
So you know who is remorseful and who is not? You are winding a story that happened over 50 years ago to today. I never said criminals are remorseful, it wasn't part of the equation, nor did I suggest it, nor do I give a rats behind if they are in these cases. You want to prove that Speck led others to "reminisce"about their crimes to influence others, name them. At the end of the day, Speck was treated in a way he shouldn't have been but did he murder or hurt anyone else or was he still in prison? Yes he was.

I know that Speck was not remorseful and I see little evidence that any other murderer is remorseful. If someone commits the same crime over and over again because they like committing it it's very unlikely they are going to be remorseful once locked up in prison or suffer due to feelings of guilt over their crimes, which some people believe is a greater punishment for them than execution. It's also likely that they will relive those crimes over in their minds because they enjoyed committing them. And if they enjoy doing that it's also likely they will regale others with talk about their crimes.
Even if someone has only committed one murder it's unlikely they believe they did anything bad because in their mind they had some good reason to commit the crime. One of the most common "excuses" is that they were provoked into committing it. It's kind of difficult to feel bad about what you did when you feel you had an excuse for doing it.
There's not a lot gained by not executing murderers, especially serial killers and mass murderers. If they are not paroled many of them get accustomed to living in prison just like Speck did and don't suffer much if at all. The people who suffer more are the ones who don't belong in prison. This country has a lot of those kinds of folks locked up, often on lame drug charges.
