Missouri is a death penalty state so its interest in preserving life doesn't extend beyond the uterus!

In Missouri 6.5 children per 1000 die before their first birthday ranked 33 out of 50

Missouri has 9.8 murders per 100 000 ranked 49 out of 50

so I can see that it really cares about preserving life

Good points except for that one about the death penalty. That can be used to protect life. It can easily prevent murderers from killing again.

Missouri is not what anyone would call a progressive state. I'm somewhat surprised when moderate democrats are elected to the senate on occasion. Those pockets of liberalism help moderate the state a little.

Somewhere that retains the right to end some ones life FOR ANY REASON cannot be viewed as "pro life"

Death penalty states do not have a lower murder rate than non death penalty states so the death penalty cannot be said to save lives

Either murder is a crime, or it is not. If it is not, why punish it? If it is, then by what perverse logic do you punish it by the same crime?" It also is tantamount to bad arithmetic, since "now two people are dead instead of one!"

So does life in prison.

"Death penalty states do not have a lower murder rate than non death penalty states so the death penalty cannot be said to save lives" is just logical.

You can support more big government forcing women to carry to full term, but it does not make you "pro-life" , especially if you support the State taking lives.

Give up the lie.

Carry to full term of a healthy baby that was viable or one that was not? As a delivery room nurse for 5 yrs, I don't think you get many takers on offing a full term healthy baby. There are babies delivered from dying and dead moms. I remember the Scott/Lacy Peterson case in CA., a charge against him was 2 murders, the baby was viable and no longer needed the mother to live.

More women die giving birth than having abortions - assuming that both are in properly equipped hospitals

there are in the US about 23.8 deaths per 100,000 births among women giving birth (a shameful figure that few are willing to address)

I cant get a recent death rate for legally induced abortion in the US but elsewhere its about 1.5 per 100 000

The US has horrid statistics on maternal/infant mortality compared to other OCED countries whose average per 1,000 is 3.9, the US, 5.9.

There have been cases where executing a murderer as originally planned would have saved several lives so it has to be an effective way to save lives. In the case of Kenneth McDuff alone executing him as originally planned would have saved at least twelve lives. If you recognize that fact and support the death penalty based on it there is nothing that isn't pro-life about that. In fact, if you don't support the death penalty knowing its power to save lives you're not very pro-life.

So does life in prison.-Geezess

It can but there is no guarantee it will. Capital punishment provides a guarantee.

A lot of jurisdictions have trouble giving a murderer a life sentence. Also murderers can kill people even when they remain confined in prison.

If you're anti-choice that doesn't make you pro-life even if don't support capital punishment.

Scott was charged with two murders because two humans had been killed.

The unborn have a right to life even before viability. That is something that the left should acknowledge.
