Re: Natural Born Stupidity
That would be incorrect, all persons do not feel love. There can be apathy where one can but they are depressed, anxious and emotionless. Then there are mental diseases, dementia and Alzheimers or there is schizoids, psychotics and sociopaths. It doesn't leave a person alone, most marry, or have partners and have families, even in the worst cases of violent serial killers. I have always been monogamous. I have known many men and women who have and I have known those who have not. It may be a part of my own moral boundries for one but I think a lot has to do with, it's far to much grief and effects far to many other persons and I hate messy.

quote: But finally, we also have to remember that herd animals, like all other primates, are not monogamous. It is not clear humans actually are or should be monogamous. So we have to question where that tradition came from, and whether or not it is a good idea?-Rigby
Humans are primates but not herd animals and there certainly doesn't seem to be any good reason for them not to be monogamous. That seems to lead to less problems, especially when they produce offspring.
And it obviously has worked well for a lot of people. In the case of some people who have been monogamous for a long time the only drawback seems to be losing their spouse and the devastating effect that sometimes has on them.
Additionally, humans are able to shape their own reality. They can even live away from all other humans if they want to.

Obviously many have reasons not to be monogamus, not that I understand them but they certainly exist, especially when you are speaking of multiple husbands or wives, isn't one more than enough!

Re: Natural Born Stupidity
The purpose of sex is mostly bonding in primates, not procreation. Hunter/gatherers need bonding with the whole tribe, not only because food needs to be shared, but also because defense and other survival aspects need strengthened bonding.
How we think we feel now is not that relevant because an artificial culture can easily be conditioned upon us as we grow up. And it is hard to see how anything natural could have survived the Old Testament.

Re: Natural Born Stupidity
I disagree as in biology of species, there is breeding and breeding is to procreate. In humans not all can procreate but still enjoy sex, just as there are humans where procreation is very important and others it is distasteful.

No, animals, including humans, do not have sex to procreate.
That would be like claiming we or any animal eats or sleeps in order to be healthy.
No animals are motivated by the long term result that evolution has selected for.
All animals, including humans, deal with sex, food, sleep, etc., by the body's mechanisms for releasing pain and pleasure chemicals.

Re: Natural Born Stupidity
Sex, sleep, food is necessary for survival, not to be just "healthy." Chemicals, that we enjoy sex, taking a nap or a eating a donut is not the same.

We know now what is necessary due to our education in biology, but no child or uneducated knows or thinks about that at all.
For example, there are lots of societies in history that did not make the connection between sex and pregnancies.
No animal, including humans, does anything out of knowledge, but out of physical pain/pleasure from our DNA instead.
The best we can do is slightly steer our cravings toward things with less harmful sugars, grease, and salt.

Re: Natural Born Stupidity
Of course it's biology, it is called phenomones(not DNA) and you don't have to be a child or uneducated not to think about it. Obviously there is more to it than child bearing or women after menopause wouldn't enjoy sex so much and feel so free about having sex!
