Senator Hawley should read Missouri's informed consent booklet

"If there is no indication in their record that at any time they have acknowledged that Roe was wrong at the time it was decided, then I’m not going to vote for them — and I don't care who nominates them."
— Hawley to WashPost

If Roe v Wade was wrongly decided, as Missouri Senator Josh Hawley apparently believes, then there shouldn't be any information in Missouri's informed consent booklet indicating that a legal abortion is at least 31 times safer than childbirth. That's the sort of thing that might mislead some women reluctant to bear a child into doing something he wouldn't approve of them doing.

He should first read that booklet and then have that information removed from it if he can show that Roe v Wade was actually a wrong legal decision rather than just claiming that it is. Otherwise it will look like he's just playing the political game of trying to pander to his "pro-life" supporters.

Showing that Roe v Wade was wrongly decided is going to be rather difficult since it was one of the best rulings the Supreme Court ever made.

I'm not impressed with Hawley or Missouri laws on abortion and what they have done, I think they are gross.

Gross is one word that can be applied. Irrational is another one. It borders on the absurd for a state like Missouri to be "pro-life" and then to require women considering an abortion to read a booklet that tells them that legal abortion is safer than childbirth. Not only did they do that but they have also harassed abortion clinics in the state to the point where there is only one left.

As I said, Hawley needs to read that booklet. If he wants to stick to his claim about Roe v Wade being a mistake then he needs to make a public announcement that he is going to have that information removed from Missouri's informed consent booklet. It doesn't belong in that document if Roe v Wade was a bad ruling. But only if he can explain what was wrong with Roe v Wade.

I suppose it isn't odd that a Senator would want to give a new potential voter more rights than the woman who has to actually take the risks. But I always though senators were supposed to understand law?

Maybe lawmakers had no choice and were literally forced in Missouri in presenting certain accurate information, abortion is 14x safer than childbirth

How could they have been forced to do so? There is no law or rule that I know of that requires such information to be included in an abortion informed consent booklet. It's good that it was included but I doubt that it was any kind of legal requirement.

If Missouri passed some law requiring the state to disclose that childbirth is 31 times more dangerous than a legal abortion I have no problem with that. That means the state is crossing over the line to the pro-choice side just as much as it would be by simply deciding to include that information in its informed consent booklet without being legally coerced.

Either way it is assuming what amounts to a pro-choice position whether it really wants to or not.
