US Military deaths in Afghanistan:

US Military deaths in Afghanistan:

US military deaths in Afghanistan at 2,207

As of Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at least 2,207 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan as a result of the [sign in to see URL] invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to an Associated Press count.

Outside of Afghanistan, the department reports at least 135 more members of the U.S. military died in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Of those, 11 were the result of hostile action. The Defense Department also counts four military civilian deaths.

Since the start of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan, 20,037 U.S. service members have been wounded in hostile action, according to the Defense Department.

{And just what did we get for all this death and destruction? The death toll of Americans is almost as bad as the death toll on 9/11. We drove al-Qaeda out of Afghanistan but we couldn't get rid of the Taliban who still terrorise the country and our nation building exercise from what I can see of it is a total failure. The Obama administration hunted down and sent our military into Pakistan to kill him and that pretty well was it for al-Qaeda.

It seems we got very little for the 2,207 American deaths and the more than 20,000 wounded U.S. service members. Some of the wounded are without limbs or with terrible brain injuries. There were so many promises made about the end results of both the war in Afghanistan and Iraq and so little of them were kept. Afghanistan continues to be the graveyard of would be conquerors from the days of Alexander the great and Iraq is now a home for terrorists and jihadists which wasn't the case under Saddam.

These wars almost bankrupted the nation and have left us less than we once were. As always it seemed the military won the wars but our politicians lost the peace. What a waste. What a debacle. What do you think?}
