Duck hunting?

Duck hunting?

http://www.foxnews.com/tech/slideshow/2017/01/25/shot-show-2017-in-pictures.html#/slide/the-largest-gun-show-on-earth

[Are those ducks in trouble...or what? Most of those weapons would leave nothing left but a few feathers floating in the air. I can see what with the number of hunters shooting other hunters that they might need the body armor and of course every small game hunter needs a helicopter with machine guns on it. You could walk out of that place with more fire power than a navy seal!!]

Most of those shows are not just for hunters, is also a medium for weaponry developers to get their products out in high visibility for foreign military, US military members to fawn over to their respective bosses. Decoys, shotguns, camo gear and blinds are a piece of the pie not the whole.

BTW, 90% of wild duck shot is dragged back to the blinds by dogs, still alive, still trying to get away. We usually have to wring the necks on them to put them down as the dogs retrieve them.

I'm vegetarian...i don't believe in eating animals.. If hunters used targets or clay pigeons all of the time i wouldn't begrudge their fun with guns.

I am a meat eater, I enjoy the chase the moving target and the taste of wild game including fish. I also eat most every domesticated food providing animal as poultry, bovine, swine. Have even eaten horse back in the day.

There are plus and minus to both life style such as low absorbable iron in vegetables while from meats are absorbed more readily. Protein from meat is more digestible than many vegetable proteins as the human digestive tract was designed for that.

I do practice with targets but that is for the skill honing to be a better kill shot for the hunt, that is the purpose of general target shoots.

I regret to inform you that those arguments are either completely bogus or almost completely so.

the only down side of not eating animal protein is that your diet would be deficient in Cobalamin (vit B12).

I too eat meat and make no apology for doing so but I accept that it is a choice not a dietary requirement

Its not quite that easy.
Except for tofu, it is hard to get all the proteins you need all at once, in the right ratio.
There are essential amino acids that human bodies do not produce, and you need to consume all at the same time, in order to build cells like muscle.

{...
The nine amino acids humans cannot synthesize are phenylalanine, valine, threonine, tryptophan, methionine, leucine, isoleucine, lysine, and histidine
...}

There are also others often not produced in sufficient quantity by the human body.

{...
Six other amino acids considered conditionally essential in the human diet, ... are arginine, cysteine, glycine, glutamine, proline, and tyrosine
...}

The only amino acids dispensable in humans, meaning they can be synthesized in the body, are alanine, aspartic acid, asparagine, glutamic acid and serine.

There are foods that can give you all the essential amino acids, but it is difficult and requires careful menu and cooking.
For example, you can get a lot of it from corn and rice, but then you still need something like beans and something to help the digestion and absorption of the lysine from beans.

( of course eggs and dairy are an easier way.)

Punt Gun: The Duck Cannon of the Past [VIDEO] - Wide Open Spaces

Nov 1, 2014 - In the days of market hunting, cannons roared in the marshes and waterfowl dropped in droves. The punt gun was effective, to say the least.

That is not very fair.

First of all, of all the hunters I know, not a single one of them hunts ducks. It is one of the less appealing forms of hunting because it is also fairly difficult and you get little meat out of it.

Second is that gun shows are little about duck hunting. Obviously it is only legal to use a shotgun when duck hunting.

What you actually see the most of when going to a gun show, is people showing off their antique collection.
They are not for sale, and there is no money involved.
You will also see a lot of rein-actors, in full costume, and with antique weapons. Most gun shows also are where restored antique military vehicles are shown.

What you suggest is like going to a knitting fair and assume everyone is like Madame Defarge and part of a secret revolutionary Tricoteuse cabal.

When you see body armor and things like that, most of that is sold to police.
When you see things like helicopters, that is usually something like a recruitment table for the National Guard.

The largest gun show on Earth

The Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show is the largest gun show on Earth. Owned and sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), SHOT Show 2017 was held at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas from Jan. 17 through Jan. 20.

[Sounds like a hunting organization to me!]
