American Death Wish:

American Death Wish:

Gun legislation remains stalled after Washington shootings:

A day after a mass shooting left 13 dead within two miles of the Capitol, federal gun legislation is in the same place as it’s been for months: stalled in Congress. Still stung by an April defeat in the Senate, discouraged proponents of gun control legislation say that the chances for change are still dim, even as new calls for reform echo in the wake of the Navy Yard massacre.

Aides and advocates say that little has changed from a political perspective to give supporters of gun control the five votes they would need to push through an amendment like the one crafted by Sens. Joe Manchin, [sign in to see URL]., and Pat Toomey, R-Pa., that fell six votes short of passage in April."I'm listening to see if any of my colleagues are willing to change their vote on Manchin-Toomey,” said Sen. Dick Durbin, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate and a longtime proponent of gun control. “I've not heard anything yet.”

The Manchin-Toomey proposal, developed in the wake of the Newtown school shootings, would have mandated criminal background checks on most private sales and incorporated mental health records into the background check system. But it was defeated under heavy pressure from gun groups who said the law would restrict Second Amendment rights and invade gun owners’ privacy.

{ I have finally come to the conclusion that nothing will ever change when it comes to the issue of gun violence in the United States. The NRA and the gun manufacture's of America own the nation lock, stock and barrel. Most people just don't seem to give a damn that the country is cursed with crazed, often legal gun owners, who in spite of obvious mental problems easily purchase weapons to kill men, women and children. The apathy and lack of empathy from many people of America is astonishing. There is no way of understanding it other then people just don't seem to think it can happen to them. They are wrong.

Sadly there are organizations and individual who would see the nation walking ankle deep in blood as long as they can make money off it. The national rifle association is such a group. They have turned the 2nd amendment into a cash cow and violent death into a money making enterprise. The pride of American capitalism. They are vampires and vultures feeding on the corpses of our children.

The 2nd amendment is a cancer that has become a sacrament. As a nation we were born carrying the seeds of our own demise. The true "mark of Cain". We love guns to death and guns will love us to death. The ultimate "death wish".}

Re: U.S. survival plan

Through most of history the strong have ravaged the weak.

Carnivores on the savannah would starve and die without culling the herds of herbivores there.

Kings, and lesser authorities have imposed their will on the populace for millennia.

But one invention has helped equalize the hierarchy. For the gun empowers the weak against the strong; unprecedented in all history.

But no invention is perfect. Automobiles are quite useful. But they're a leading contributor to global warming.

There's no such thing as a one-sided coin. Just as there's an up-side, and a down-side to the automobile, there's also an up-side and a down-side to weapons.
Whining about the downside without acknowledging the up-side is ignorant at best, and ruthlessly deceptive at worst.
