what is happening with whales in New Zealand?
mid week some 416 whales stranded themselves on a beach in NZ various efforts to refloat them and send them off to sea largely failed with freed whales fequently turning right around and re beaching themselves - all but 100 of these whales died on the beach they had stranded on
then yesterday that initial pod of 400 was joined by another of 240 all similarly bent on self destruction!
I now read that a third smaller pod had self stranded on the same beach - 3 pods in as many days

Farewell Spit is the location. It is notorious for such beachings/strandings, but these were particularly huge.
It won't be allowed but you could make a lot of pet food with the fatalities.

for confusing the whales.

The Farewell Spit stranding is among the largest in history - not just in New Zealand, but worldwide - so why are pilot whales so drawn to this area?

The East coast of England (the same area where the cocaine was washed up) last winter had 6 spermm whales washed ashore in the space of a few days and across the channel there were a further 24 (30 whales in total)
