Yes, irrational is the key word but irratonality doesn't spring forth out of nowhere in Muslims, katie. Their religion contributes to them being irrational. In fact, it requires them to be because nobody who isn't irrational would or could be a Muslim. You have to be irrational to accept the nonsense that is Islam in the first place. The notion that Mohammed got an important message from God in the 7th century that God decided to only give to him is laughably nonsensical.
What Islam does is make irrational beliefs acceptable to people who are trying to do the right thing. And while those irrational beliefs vary greatly occasionally some of them include beliefs about violence against innocent people being justified.
