No.

"What I was suggesting was that some of the claims of British terror and harassment of Americans leading up to the Revolutionary War that katie mentioned may have been propaganda aimed at getting more Americans ready and willing to fight... " then pay for the Crown's European wars ?

If you're being protected by the British army shouldn't you pay taxes to support that army in its efforts overseas? While we were part of the British Empire we should have supported its efforts to survive.

The point was the colonists weren't protected, that was their gripe. The British govt. and troops, came from Britain. Being sent to any of the colonies was not an honour it was a punishment.

They were protected. Do you think the British government would have allowed any other country to send troops into the American colonies to take them over?

The British did not protect the colonists, they did at the time what other dictators do, that is not American history propaganda but by British records. Much of our own history propropanga has been exposed as well, like Washington's false teeth were not of wood but from slaves, he did lie and he didn't chop down any cherry tree.

The new American government told people what to do also, especially women and black folks, who weren't even allowed to vote. I would be willing to bet that most Americans did not see any great improvement in their working or living conditions after the revolution.

What changed is that they had created a new enemy, the British, and now had to depend completely on themselves for their protection. In the future not only would the British attack Americans again but they would fight a politically divisive Civil War that would have lasting adverse effects which are still affecting us today.

Yet here we are allies with the British. The war of 1812 is not effecting us, this is 2020 and those days are over 200 years ago.

The Civil War and its aftermath are still affecting us politically. It would have been much better to end slavery as the British did with a government decree. Was that the action of a dictatorial government telling a mass of people what to do? Yes to a great extent but it was a lot better than a more democratically fought war between the states which cost approximately 700,000 American lives.

We did, it is called Juneteenth, that we ended slavery doesn't mean we ended discrimination and don't brag about the English, I found the racism worse there than here, at least in my part of the world.

Racism may very well be worse there. The thing is though there are less black people or other minorities being shot by the police. The British do not put up with having a police force running around shooting people with little to no justification as we do in this country.

And of course if we had remained a part of the British Empire much longer than we did there'd be a much better chance that we wouldn't be putting up with that kind of police violence here. We have even more of a heritage of living by the gun and depending on guns to solve problems than the British do.
